Where the Red Fern Grows

I read this book many years ago and just had the opportunity to purchase the book for my oldest daughter to read as a class assignment. She enjoys reading and thought that this book was an excellent read as I did so many years ago.

Where the Red Fern Grows

My book was called Where The Red Fern Grows and it was a fiction book. It was written by Wilson Rawls.

This book is about a boy named Billy that wants dogs so bad he would work for about three years cutting wood, picking crops, selling fishing bait and anything else he could think of. That was exactly what Billy does. Finally Billy orders the dogs and picks them up at a different town after walking to that place and then walking back with the pups over his shoulder in a sack. He got two pups that were hunting dogs. He hunted with them every night. He made promises to them and kept them. His dogs were named Little Ann, who had all the brains, and Old Dan who had the muscles. Little Anne and Old Dan were entered in a hunting contest with Billy. They won under very hard times. Sometimes when they hunted back at home they would have something bad happen, but it turned out good.

This was the very best book I have ever read in my whole life! It was so good I have read it two times just for fun. It made me cry a lot of times even on the third time reading it! This book would be for someone that likes to not be able to put a book down. This book kept me on the edge of my seat at times and other times I would be crying so much that I almost used a whole box of tissues! This book also has some scary, funny, and weird parts but it was still a really good book. I would recommend this book to a lot of people even though I already have!

Exciting ending, boring beginning

I found the beginning of this book to be quite boring. It felt like the same thing happened in practically every chapter up to about page one hundred. He would hunt, get in danger, and get out of it. Same thing every time. After that, however, it got better. More things happened like him getting in the competition, and the tragic ending. Overall it was a decent book.

A True Classic

I read this book when I was really young...It got me into hunting sort of...I wanted a hound so bad after reading this..I think evry MAN is allowed to cry when reading this book....Great book to give to a youngster for sure....
