The 7 Stages is a must read.Extremely insightful.

Kinder's command of the human experience modeled(and applied) through his thoughtfully designed 7 stages of money maturity(as a teaching gem) is the most insightful and useful tool I have experienced in gaining clarity around my issues of money. This has made it possible for me as a planner to
effectively assist my clients in pursuit of their dream of freedom.More importantly, it has made it possible for ME to dream too.
This one is not to be missed!

Highly Recommended!

I highly recommend this book! George's book was extremely beneficial to me personally and as a financial planner. The book is very insightful and provides exercises that help guide you through the steps to financial freedom. It helped me reach a better understanding of my money beliefs and behaviors. Using the same exercises, I have been able to work much more effectively with my clients and at a much deeper level. I recommend The Seven Stage of Money Maturity to my clients as a valuable resource. This book is great for anyone who is excited about taking control of their personal situation around money.

The Hero's Journey as applied to our relationship with money

To put it simply, George Kinder has created a template for identifying what makes us most uncomfortable around money and then transforming ourselves to be more at ease in those situations. If you are a financial advisor, you'll want to read this book first to help yourself uncover what is truly important in your life and what obstacles you may unconsciously place in your way that inhibit your attaining your true goals and aspirations. Then, as an advisor, you'll want to model what you've learned and have your clients read this book so that you will share the roadmap with them that can help transform their lives, with you at their side (like Virgil guiding Dante through the Inferno).

As a lay person, outside of the financial profession, you will be moved by George Kinder's very literate style that pulls wisdom from disparate sources such as the major religions, classic works of literature, as well as popular culture. Above all, you will see how the Hero's Journey, as chronicled by Joseph Campbell, is the framework of our own journey through our dark places (our painful dilemmas around money) to our eventual emergence into the light (and a sense of freedom with financial issues).

Read this book carefully and do the exercises included inside, and watch your emotions surface. That's when you'll recognize how powerful a work The Seven Stages of Money Maturity is.

An Important Work

An extraordinary work. The structure of suffering with pain and innocence is a wonderful description of the struggle that we all have. Kinder describes and illustrates this with sensitivity. The examples that he uses profile the hman condition. As a financial planner, I found the goal exercises a practical way to outline and clarify what is important for me and for my clients. I have recommended the 7 Stages of Money Maturity to many of my clients. If you are experiencing pain or fear around money, if you are feeling an emptiness in your life you need to read this book! If you are a financial planner, it will make a profound difference in your practice

Life Changing Message

As a Certified Financial Planner(tm), I did not expect this book to have the impact on my PERSONAL life in the way that it did.

I bought the book after client observation made it clear to me that wealth and happiness are not DIRECTLY correlated. I knew that my clients, though indicating a desire for greater wealth, were really seeking happiness and contentment. Sometimes, to achieve their version of contentment, more wealth was necessary. Often, it was not. I hoped that the book would help me to understand how money, happiness and contentment are interrelated so that I could share that knowledge with my clients and help guide them through troubled waters.

The book delivered. I am now able to advise my clients much more effectively and accurately. But, the REAL gift of the book was that it revealed to me my own angst with regard to money. It unlocked doors that had not just been closed to me but had been invisible. I now have an understanding of the role that money plays in my life and can make financial decisions with clarity and ease...even when there are no "easy" choices.

Though the word 'maturity' in the title didn't connect with me when I bought the book, it most certainly does now. I feel like an adult for the first time in my nearly 40 years. It is a welcome relief for me to know that whatever challenges life holds, with regard to money or otherwise, I now have the tools to meet them with grace.

I highly recommend this book for those feeling ANY sort of pain around issues relating to money. If you read the book and bring attention and awareness to the exercises, your relationship to money will be transformed, regardless of who you are or how much/little you have in the way of financial assets!
