The Velvet Room

I read the first half of this book when I was eight and could not put it down until it mysteriously vanished. For years I searched my house over and over for it, but to no avail. I was thrilled to finally find a copy of it at a library, and the story was just as enthralling twenty years later. It would be wonderful if a new edition would be published.

The Velvet Room by Zilpha K. Snyder

I read this book as a fifth grader and loved it. My copy has long since been misplaced, and how I wish for it. PUBLISHERS, bring this book back! I have gone online many times, searching for it to no avail (other than very expensive used copies)! I am a teacher and would love to find a copy to read to my class... or multiple copies for my children to enjoy one-by-one!

My Favorite Children's Book

I was an adult before I discovered this book. Recently I read a library copy and then I knew I had to have my own copy so I could read it over and over.

I love this book because it's heartwarming and teaches a valuable lesson. Yes, everyone should have a "velvet room" that they can escape to when they're troubled. But this book teaches a more important truth that most everyone can benefit from. I certainly did.

*The Velvet Room*

I think that the Velvet Room is one of the best books I have ever read. I just couldn't put it down and it's one of those books where you wish you had a secret velvet room too where you could sit and read all day. I was hoping to be able to buy the book but unfortunately it is out of print. I think they should make a new edition.

Beautiful "Room"

Few memories are as clear to me as reading and rereading this book over the long, lonely summer that stretched between fifth and sixth grade. The velvet room itself beautifully articulates a young person's desire for enchantment as well as for privacy. I used to hide the overdue notices sent by the library, and now that I can afford my own copy of VR, it is terrible to learn that this classic is out of print.
