One of a kind...

I read this book several years ago and it became my favorite. It still is. As with the other novels still on my shelf, I like and respect the main characters. However, what makes this book stand out for me is that the author doesn't just share the characters' thoughts with the reader, she also has the characters share their thoughts with each other via dialog. Additionally, the dialog is real, not just a map to the characters motivations. At the end of this book, not only did I know why the characters were together but so did they, making the ending truly satisfying.

Good, but huge flaw

This book was good, long, but moved along well. There was, however, a major flaw. Meredith was a spineless, weak character. Matt was great and after she rejected him for the 2nd or 3rd time and didn't trust him, I thought he deserved someone better than her. Her father did horrible things to her and Matt and continued to treat her like dirt her whole life and yet she defended him continually and only 2 times she stood up to him (mildly) she relented and forgave him immediately. He was a despicable person and the things he did did not show any love towards her, and yet she stood by him! I guess she got that from her mother, who after being treated horribly by her husband and thrown out of the house and 30 years later she still forgave him and loved him! Not realistic. She didn't care she was forced from her daughter's life and made no attempts to contact her daughter and make amends. I prefer my romances to have heroes and heroines who are both likable.

Sensational! I couldn't put it down!

This is "the" romance novel is all I have to say. I've never written a review of a book before but felt compelled. This lenghty novel is so engrossing and enjoyable that you almost don't mind that it has 700 or so pages in it. It has romance, love, great characters, plot, development. I especially loved to see how Matt and Meredith's relationship started when they were young and how it altered to fit them as they became older. Matt is the ultimate male lead, handsome, charming, yet tender with Meredith that gives their love that special something. This is the 1st novel I've ever read by Judith McNaught and I can tell you, I am running out to get "Perfect" next. I can't get enough. I may have to re-read it again! You won't be disappointed with this book I tell you!

impulse

I dont usually write reviews, but after i read this book i was compelled to express its impact. i have never, in all the hundreds of books i have read of all genres, been torn between the desire to throw the book onto the ground and stamp my emotional frustration onto it and the almost otherwordly inability to let go of it. she created a world inside of her book, and i felt as if i were living in that reality- sometimes as an irate observor, but there were also times when i knew about as much as the characters did. i suppose the word im looking for is real.
it was REAL.

Deserves 10 Stars

This is my first book by Judith McNaught and the best love story I've ever read. The author lays a strong foundation with her characters, telling us who they are and why. How could you not cheer for both Matt or Meredith after learning of each of their pasts. They were meant to be together. Incredible plot, characters and romance. Paradise is the perfect name for this book. Only sorry that I hadn't discovered it sooner. Can't wait to read more.
