Arrggh
I tried so hard to really like this book. I mean it is pretty entertaining but after awhile the main character starts to be unlikeable since she is so mean to her undeserving husband. Then the book just ends and that should have been a good thing IF all the loose ends where tied together and somekind of closure could be made but no. Nothing. It made me wonder what happend to this, that etc. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't say but this book was just disapointing.
Not my favorite but still enjoyable
A neighborhood Mom (Kitty) is murdered and found by Kate who decides to figure out "who dunnit" on her own. This type of book is different from the other two I have read by this author. I loved "Good in Bed" and "In Her Shoes". This one combined chick-lit and murder mystery all in one. There were things I loved about this book. Weiner has a great sense of humor and her wit runs rampant thru the pages. I liked the character Evan and the storyline involving him. Weiner did a great job weaving the history of the relationship between Evan and Kate throughout the book. (This might have been the best part of the book) And of course I can relate to the trials and tribulations of being a mom raising young kids. This wasn't my favorite book by Weiner but I still really enjoyed it.

Laughing Out Loud
I thought this was a very light and entertaining book.
This is a silly, snarky, satirical so-called-suspense novel where the main character has left her full life in New York City and moved to the suburbs. Kate Klein is the mother of three young children and she suddenly finds herself spending time with the ultraperfect supermommies of suburbia where nothing exciting or interesting happens until one day when one of the supermommies is murdered.
Kate finds herself compelled to launch her own unofficial investigation into the crime and starts to discover the secrets and lies behind the perfect facades of her neighbors.
Jennifer Weiner's sense of humor really hit my funny bone. I found myself laughing out loud throughout this book and while there are some things that seem rather contrived, we do after all live in America where anything is possible. Remember the cheerleader Mom attempted murder case back in the early 90s?
I also thought it had it's tender and poignant moments. I loved the main character Kate Klein and her best friend Janie Segal. and while the character of her husband Ben could have been developed more I really don't think he needs to be, it works with him portrayed the was he was.
I think that Jennifer Weiner oh SO nailed the mommy stuff, the perfect supermommie stuff and what it feels like to be a stay at home mom.
I know that lots of reviewers did not like this book. This was a book club pick and I would not have chosen it myself just based on the criticisms posted here about it. Now that I've read it I have to disagree with the critics and say I thought it was a fun and funny book worth reading. Especially for the stay at home mom who will appreciate this story in a way that others may not.
Let me also say that I'm not comparing this to something like The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant or I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb. Those are amazing works of fiction. This is light and funny and fun a great beach read. And I would compare it to Piece of Work by Laura Zigman. Both are entertaining.
And if you did like this you would probably like Jen Lancaster's Bitter Is The New Black, also very funny.

More interested in the past than present
I found myself much more interested in Kate Klein's past life; her life out of college, living with Janie, living in the same building as Evan, than her current life as a mom and would-be detective. I would get embroiled in the chapters of the past then disappointed to find myself brought to the present again, and I could barely remember what was even happening.
It was enjoyable, but I did find the ending to be rushed and contrived. I felt like I wasted a lot of time getting to know characters who had nothing to do with anything.
Jennifer Weiner is an outstanding writer, but this one fell a bit flat for me. I had so many questions at the end.
I think the best character (in the present) was the wee lassie, Sophie!
