Educational Uplift

This book was a great read. It was an easy read, filled with short vignettes and suggestions on each page. It will be enjoyed by substitute teachers, classroom teachers and just about anyone in education. Positive books like this are always a welcome edition to my booshelf!

A teacher reviews The ERssential 55

A good book with a lot of ideas, many of which I have been doin for the past 30+ tears. Unfortuantely in today's teaching environment, many cannot be implemented due to various government requirements and the reluctance of many school administrators to kowtow to the demands of parents who feel the teacher is picking on little Johhny or Jane. I suppose that is the main reason Clark opened his own school. Private schools are free of many of the problems forced on the public school system.

For parents and teachers with troubled children.

This is an fabulous little book, that gives guide lines to help teach troubled children respect and self-discipline.

Some Useful, Some Not

There are a myriad of items in the book to follow. Some of them are dubious even as a parent. Controlling to say the least.

There is nothing wrong with teaching manners, and respect for people. But, submission goes a little further than required.

I don't know if I would recommend buying the book because I didn't find it that insightful. Basically a laundry list, with explanation on what those items mean. It's filled with lots of rules for sure, but it comes across as rigid and inflexible.

There is a balance to be had, and I don't think this book provides it. It is the other side of a pendulum that tries to compensate for things not being as one wishes now. The rules are presented as requirement, not suggestion or argued thought.

The Essential 55

I love this book! So many great insights into teaching. This book would make anyone want to teach for the next 100 years it's so motivational! Writing more like a memoir than a tips book was inspired. Clark is what all teachers need to aspire to! I've given this book to others as gifts!
