Fascinating reading
I first saw Paula and Elyse on The View. While this wasn't the kind of book I normally read, I purchased the book and once I started reading, I literally couldn't put it down. The book is jammed with amazing facts about
twins
but also the details of journies of the heart as the twins "discover" each other. It was nice to be part of the "closure" as the book ended.
Intriging and Informative - great read
My husband and I both read this book and couldn't put it down. We had great discussions afterwards and agreed on how well it was researched and written.
The "girls'" book reads like a mystery and along with it information is imparted about the issues of twin-ness and nature vs nurture.
The ambivalence between the two women, their relationship to one another, and to the past and present, is portrayed extremely honestly - I almost felt like a voyeur. I liked the way each voice often gave an individual perception of what was currently happening between them. The writing created a tone of immediacy.
It takes a lot for me to find a book that I want to read continually. I really didn't want this one to end. I'm hoping a movie is made of "
Identical
Strangers
" - I love the title too.
If you have any curiosity about
twins
/multiples, this book is a must read.

I could not put this book down.
If the measure of a good book is that you care about the characters, then this is a masterpiece. Elyse and Paula's story is so compelling, and their telling of it so raw and honest, I was completely spell-bound. This book raises so many important questions about the true meaning of identity, family, and belonging that you needn't be a twin, or even an adoptee -- simply a human being -- to find great value in its reading.
astonishing this happened
Great read with good insight into idential
twins
and nature vs. nurture. In addition, it gives an insight into adoption. Incredible story on the twins separation.....thought provoking. A quick read.

I don't think it needed to be so long
I am very interested in
twins
and triplets, and also interested in children who have been given up for adoption finding their birth parents. So this seemed like the perfect book for me. I thought my daughter might enjoy it, so I bought it for her for Christmas, but read it while I was at her home during Christmas. I got lost and bored a lot of the time. Although I wanted to find out what ultimately happened, by skipping a few pages, or skimming over them, I did finish the book. I am happy that they found their uncle who was willing to tell them as much as he did. I am especially happy that they found that their mother was a very delightful girl just like they are, but just got too sick to take care of them or herself. I might recommend that a friend read this book if I knew her interests are the same as mine were. Leda Witt has a couple of very smart, cagey, detective-type girls and I know that she would be so proud of them ~ I know because of am the mother of a daughter too.
