Why Don't You Have This Book?

I don't suppose I'm adding much to what the others have said, but if your job or avocation have anything to do with writing, you must possess this volume. This is not optional. I refuse to call it "The Bible" of serious writers, but if there were one, this would be it.

The classic remains unchallenged

The Manual may have its opponents (particularly those who prefer, as the gentleman from Florida pointed out, to not place a comma before an article prefacing an end of a series), but it remains the pinnacle of style guides for the professional and dedicated writer. For a more pedestrian or student writer, it may not be the best choice (I suggest The Scribner Handbook, DiYanni and Hoy), but for the high academic, there is no other choice.

Ignore the comments from that last person from Chicago. This book is one of the best sources on grammar and usage. Arm yourself with this and the latest Webster's Collegiate dictionary, and you'll be well on your way!

Comparitively speaking, this is the best source an author or publisher can use to increase his or her knowledge of grammer. This book is one of the best in it's area, and should be used by teachers and professers across campuses
