Still my favorite series.
I resisted reading Janet Evanovich's books for years despite all the encouragement of friends, co-workers, and family. I was really missing out. Her humor and writing style are absolutely wonderful and I picked up the first book in this series expecting to be only mildly entertained. I couldn't have been more wrong! I was laughing so hard at the hilarious events that I never wanted to put that first book down. I quickly devoured the rest of the series. I know the lines are fairly well defined between Evanovich's readers. You're either a Morelli fan or a Ranger fan. Morelli is good, but Ranger can't be beat. There's no competition between a playboy New Jersey cop and a dark and mysterious Cuban bounty hunter. Sorry. Cuban bounty hunter trumps playboy cop.
Sure the stories are getting a little wackier with time. And exactly how many cars has
Stephanie destroyed
? So it's predictable in some ways, but still highly enjoyable.

BEST STEPHANIE PLUM YET!
i have read all the books in a row in the last couple of weeks (thanks to bad summer television) and i have to say i LOVE these books. this book has been my favorite. i don't know it if is the seriousness or the author is getting better with the humor. this book was delicious! why is it so hard for other readers to accept that
stephanie could
love two men? who wouldn't want morelli and ranger to be in love with them?! i think as readers we are torn between them too. grandma mazur, lula and joyce bernhardt are terrific as always. i have one complaint, why does janet evanovich only write one book a year??? these books need to be made into a movie or television show. i can't enough wonderful things about it. A MUST PURCHASE!

A bit more about Ranger...
Stephanie
Plum
is in the middle of a muddle again. The office is overflowing with FTAs that need to be rebonded so Vinnie isn't out his money. Ranger doesn't take as many cases as before and he's off somewhere anyway. So they decide to hire a new bounty hunter. In the process they end up hiring bail jumping Melvin Pickle to do the filing, give Joyce Barnhardt all the impossible cases, and interview a lot of psychotic wannabe losers. But this is only a side issue as Ranger's daughter Julie is kidnapped from her parents home in Florida and a women shows up at the bond office claiming to be Carmen Manoso -- Ranger's wife. But Carmen's story doesn't ring true for the folks that know Ranger and it becomes obvious that someone has decided to take over Ranger's life. And Stephanie is supposed to complete the picture of the happy Manoso bounty hunter family, after Edward Scrogs kills Ranger of course.
As typically in a Plumian mystery, nothing goes simply, and the complexities are, as usual, absurd. Ranger moves into Stephanie's apartment and takes to following her around in disguises that include adding color to his clothing. The plan is to protect Stephanie even while they use her as bait to lure Scrogs into the open. Morelli naturally moves in to keep an eye on Ranger, which leaves Stephanie choking on the testosterone clouds. And Scrogs keeps stun gunning Stephanie every time they meet and then slipping away unnoticed.
As you can see it's the usual mix of mystery, mayhem, and comedy for Stephanie Plum, especially when you add in the fact that Lula has joined Sally's band as a lead singer, and Grandma Masur is going to be a backup singer when they play the old folk home gigs.

The best Plum in ages
I've read every book in the
Stephanie
Plum series
and was beginning to think that the series had run its course - the books had become too repetitive and predictable. Well,
Twelve
Sharp changed
my mind. It's got slapstick humour, suspense, sexual tension and all the inimitable characters Plum fans have come to know and love - Stephanie, of course, and Morelli, Ranger, Grandma Mazur, Lula, Connie, Cousin Vinnie, and Stephanie's parents (thankfully, sister Valerie and her family are out of the picture, and I hope they stay that way).
