Amazing Book...Do not miss it!
This was an amazing story with amazing details. It was one of the best
book
s of the series.
The ultimate tortured hero
J.R. Ward's third entry in the
Black
Dagger
Brotherhood series
brings us the history of Zsadist, arguably the most tortured hero of the whole romance genre, and Bella, the high-ranking female who loves him enough to cope with his inner and outer demons. Frankly, the pain might put some people off, but as the
book continues
with the writer's clever subplots and secondary characters, I urge you to stick with it. You know that romance will win, but what about all those other vampires and humans that we are coming to know as our own? Don't miss any details, and get ready to dive into the next volume in this enthralling series.

The BEST!
This is the best
book
I have read in a very long time. I am an avid reader, and usually read 2 novels a week. Lately, it has been hard to find books that I want to read again and again. However, since buying
Lover
Awakened
3 weeks ago, I have re-read it 3 times. Zsadist and Bella are amazing, together and as individual characters. JR Ward did an excellent job of making these characters strong and yet vulnerable. I cannot wait for Phury's book to come out, so I can see how they are doing.
I'm speechless!
I started this
book
at 9:00pm and finished it at 3:30am. I can't think of the last time that I was so hooked that I gave up precious hours of sleep just to see a book to it's end. It was well worth the sacrifice.
In the last review I wrote for
Lover Eternal
, I wrote that it just didn't get any better than that book. I was wrong. Lover
Awakened crashed
through that glass ceiling, smashing all my notions about what "a good book" truly is. This book is quite simply in a league all it's own.
Out of all the Brothers, Zhadist, hands down, has captivated me the most. Dark Lover and Lover Eternal both did excellent jobs at introducing us to this vampire. I have to be honest, he really scared me. He scared me because he seemed to not really care for anyone, including himself. He was aloof, dangerous, mysterious, rude, and mostly just plain mean..even soulless. However, there were hints in the other two books that this was not really who he was. Hints that what lay behind the tough exterior lay a wounded warrior so laced with self-hated and shame that he sees himself as dirty, horrible, and beyond redemption. He starves himself, inflicts and asks to be tortured. He detests touch except for pain, the only emotion and feeling that he can tolerate. Enter Bella.
We first meet beautiful Bella in Lover Eternal. The first interaction between Zhadist and Bella is intense. He wants her...and Zhadist doesn't WANT anyone. She also wants him. She dares to go where no one else dares to go and confronts him over and over declaring her feelings and pushing him despite his "hands off" exterior. I loved her tenaciousness and courage. When Bella is kidnapped, the rage and obsession to find her that we see in Zhadist shows us that there is something big happening inside of Zhadist because of her.
When these 2 are reunited...something beautiful begins to happen...Zhadist begins to heal...very slowly...painfully...agonizingly...because Bella chooses him. With his scars, toughness, aloofness, she still chooses him over and over...telling him and showing him his WORTH and BEAUTY to her. In some of the most emotionally charged scenes ever written she pursues, he retreats, she pursues, he retreats..until he just can't any longer. This is literary mastery. I was moved to tears of sadness, empathy, compassion, and rage over what this individual had been put through and yet survived...sort of.
This is not a light read. The abuse in Zhadist's past is described in some detail. The love scenes are more emotional than physical, and the Lessers bring about destruction and terror to the Brothers and civilians. The end of this book brings some happiness, but there are still many things left in chaos.
I couldn't recommend this book (or this whole series) enough.
