Rainforest

This book is magnificent!! The author have done a tremendous job of capturing the most amazing photos of the rain-forests of the world! And the best thing about this book is that is packed w/ info and best of all it has a CD of rainforest sounds that is beautiful to listen to and relaxing enough to meditate by. Everyone that visits can't help themselves and sits down to look at the book which I keep on my coffee table.

The only thing I was disappointed w/ was that it has been obviously 'looked through' and 'handled' by someone before it was packed and shipped, and several of the 'shiny' pages were 'marked' w/ fingerprints which spoiled the experience some, since I would have been careful not to put in any type of hand/finger mark ~skin oils~ on the pages for preservation sakes.

Enjoy the pictures

This is a great photo book to have around. There is always something new to discover in the many images. It is also nice that they include a short description for each picture.

Do not expect it to be an ecyclopedia on the Rain Forest. It is just a great book of pictures with a few facts included to increase your enjoyment.

Absolutely fascinating!!!!

This is one of those few books that truly deserve a 10 star rating. Words alone are insufficent to discribe its beauty. It is an exquisite and breathtaking photographic journey through the flora and fauna of the rainforest. Tons of high quality pictures and astonishing close-ups are featured in this fantastic book. Get a copy NOW! I'm afraid to say, that in a close future, this book will be the only evidence to teach the future generations about the variety of animals and plants that once lived on the planet. Save the jungle!! Become an activist and protector of the rainforest!! This book will inspire and motivate you to do something to preserve the forests and their inhabitants, before they are gone forever...........

Photos like no other

This is a really awesome book and I really enjoyed looking at it! All of the pictures are very colorful and they are different from other pictures you might see.
I enjoyed seeing the waterfalls and the colorful frogs and bugs the most. The photos are really close up too, so you can see a lot of the details of small things like insects or the drops of water on a leaf that you usually might not notice.
The book also has information about the rainforests and Thomas Marent sometimes describes some of the experiences of what it was like being there.
I would recomend this book to anyone who loves nature, wants to learn more about the rainforest or just enjoys looking at really good pictures!

You can see why it took 16 years...

To echo the previous reviews of this book: The pictures in this book are phenomenal. However, don't discount the text, either. Marent's text impressions of the rainforest -- how not all rainforests look like the stereotypical green jungle one expects, how animals are almost absent in most cases unless you are patient and have very good eyes -- are some of the best articulations of a first-time visit to a tropical forest that I have read. You will want to know the stories behind these pictures, and you get some of that in this book. For those who are wondering, 2% of the proceeds go to the Rainforest Foundation according to the Foundation's website.
