Fantastic and Fun Read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and there were many places I found to be laugh out loud funny throughout. In Farewell, My Subaru, Doug Fine comes from an honest place as he talks about the things he went into this with no idea about nor any delusions thereof, and he shares his trials and victories with his readers in a very candid way.

Doug Fine recently posted on his blog that his goat Natalie just had twins. When I read that I felt like I knew them and was so excited.
I really do recommend this book to readers who are looking to be inspired to live more sustainably in their own lifestyle, or those like me who dream of giving up the grid like Doug Fine, or if for anyone that just want some great fun reading about life and love on the Funky Butte Ranch.

Fine, and a winner!

Doug fine had me laughing so hard I had to tell him that if his New Mexico Ranch ever goes south, he could make his living as a stand up comic. I had the pleasure of listening to the Recorded Books audio version, and the narrator couldn't have done a better job.

The epilog of this fascinating tale includes 5 ways you can make a positive difference in the sustainability of the world you live in and around. It made me realize I should have questioned the guy running for State Representative whose "coffee" I attended recently. I should have asked about our landfills, and about the carbon footprint of the Community College whose board he chairs. Next time I'll know.

Couldn't put it down

I loved reading "Farewell, My Subaru" and am pretty sure my husband immediately picked up when I finished. I recommended the book to several friends hours after finishing the book.

Doug Fine does a great job in relaying the first year of his adventures in living a greener life. The one suggestion I have for future editions is to put a reference for the boxed facts interspersed throughout the book.

I look forward to reading more of Doug's adventures!

Great Book...Couldn't Put It Down

Like many of the others who have posted reviews, I was unable to stop reading this book once I opened it (even with three kids running around the house). Doug communicates his successes and failures at turning his ranch into a "carbon-neutral location" very well, often injecting humor into the whole process. The book is not a "how to" for becoming "self-sustaining" but provides factual information, on-line resources, as well as some great recipes to try out...I would highly recommend this book as well as Doug's previous book (Not Really An Alaskan Mountain Man).

Farewell My Subaru

Fun read for those that have any interest in living off the grid. This gives some insight into some of the problems that will jump up and bite you if not somewhat prepared for them.Well written and easy to follow.
