A must for pupy owners

I do rescue for Basset Hounds and our group had 11 puppies in foster care. We had a puppy shower before they went to their new homes and our group bought one book for each puppy. Being a vet tech I have had experiance with Dr. Dunbar and his training methods so I knew this would be the best gift for owners of new puppies. I have gotten great reviews from the people who are using it and all the puppies are well adjusted in their new homes.

An absolute must read BEFORE getting a puppy!

This book is a must read for anyone considering getting or that has a new puppy! It takes you through all of the steps necessary to raising and teaching a new puppy. You may think you know what you are doing but after reading this book you realize you really don't. This book should be required reading in school as well. It would really help cut down on the amount of dogs that wind up in shelters due to "bad" behaviour and would teach young people about the enormous task and responsibility required in raising a dog properly. It gives you excellent insight into why the puppy does what it does and how to train the animal not to bite and to be happy and social around all types of people throughout its life. It may serve as a deterrent to those that think dogs are all fun and no work!

Really a must

Good books like this should be bought BEFORE (and not afterrwards!!!) buying a pup.
Buy it, read it, let its contents go deep into your brain/heart, and THEN buy a pup.
You'll see the difference!

Some good advice...

We are getting ready to get a new puppy and thought this book would help us prepare for that journey. While I do agree with the thought that some of the ideas are a bit unrealistic, like introducing your dog to 100 other dogs in the first month, I also found this book to be insightful and helpful. I do not read it as "do this or your dog will be a nightmare", but more as guidance and incorporating as much as we feel necessary. This is in addition to classes and other training manuals.

It is a well written, short book. I feel it will be helpful to have as a reference as any subject is easily found.
