Good, but not great.
This was recommended by several different sources, and the premise was interesting so I bought it.
The parts about the workings of a
four
-
star restaurant
were fascinating for the food enthusiast. I wish it took up most of the book. That's what the title and cover implies that the book is about. That part is 5-star material.
Unfortunately, as it progresses, the book is more and more about her relationships, one in particular. The relationships were more sad than anything, but I really didn't care the entire way. So Phoebe ends up with a philandering sommelier as the guy with whom she settles down. Bravo? More like good luck. Maybe she will be the girl that does manage to change the guy. I'm skeptical myself.
As far as the
eavesdropping part
, it's primarily a chapter tacked on near the end. Its inclusion is the definition of non sequitur. I'm almost convinced that it was added just to give the title its hook and a little more heft.

A great look behind the scenes at one of the best...
I had the chance to read this book over some time off recently. Just so happened I was waiting for a fine dining restaurant to open so I could
start serving
again. After reading this very enjoyable book I felt extremely confident in jumping back in to the industry. I look forward to her next offering with hopes that she'll carry on in the same vein and this one.

Three and a half
I enjoyed reading
Service
included
, a quick read finished in two nights. I'd have given it another half a
star
but I was annoyed by her "tips" at the end of each chapter which I found to be, in many instances, condescending. That being said the book is well written, faced paced and gives the reader great insight into how a great restaurant is run and why it is worth every cent you pay to eat there.
