This book was just ok
I heard it was on the NY times bestseller list for like a year or something, but I don't really think it's all that. It held my attention and I finished it, but I've read much more interesting books. The author has a little bit of trouble getting to the point and the first 1/4 of this book weaves in and out of the past in an annoying way that makes it slightly hard to follow. If I wasn't bored all day at work with lots of free time and nothing to do I don't think I would have made it to even the halfway point of the book. But it starts redeeiming itself around halfway through. In the end I guess I'm glad I read it, but try to find a cheap copy.

If There Were More Stars...
I would give this book all the stars possible on any rating system. I didn't think anyone could write
memoir
as well as Jo Ann Beard. I found that writer in Mary Karr. If you're a writer, read this book because Ms. Karr knows how to write WELL (unlike all the other crapola that's lying on bookshelves for some unknown, mysterious reason). If you're not a writer read this book for the same reason. She is incredibly talented - SYU is very lucky to have her on their staff. I could sit and read this book over and over and over again. Some of the stuff is not pleasant, so if certain sexual acts offend you, skip that part (near the end) and move one. Get this book. Now.

wow
i just finished reading the liar's
club
a few minutes ago- my first impulse was to run to the computer to encourage others to go and get it (if they haven't already). everything you've heard is true- this book is incredibly engaging AND incredibly well written.
A diamond in the rough.
It took me a couple of months to wade through this book, when I normally like to read a book through in one sitting.
Mary was very brave to have written with such unabashed honestly, and I commend her for doing so. It is a difficult, heartbreaking read. I was touched by the small intimate details she shared, which most people would see as only an afterthought and never put into print.
All in all, I liked this book. It's hard to give a rough synopsis of this book, which has so many layers that can not be so easily surmised.
