A man after my own heart...:)

"Living Well" is probably the most sane nutritional/lifestyle book for people with MS (and people without MS) that I've read in my nearly 30 years doing the MS dance. It's a 21-day primer, and I'm taking it one day at a time, working through the 21 days of information, incorporating each day's information as I get to it. (As of this writing, I'm up to Day 7.)

The book gives sound information and advice, with no crazy supplements, concoctions, etc. One of the things that struck me (which I've been telling people forever) is how he recommends the "custom" water idea. Montel, I've been buying a single, new, unusually-shaped bottled water every few weeks and refilling it with filtered tap water for the past several years. Did you snag that idea from me?...:)

I like that Montel keeps it simple, and also that he seems to have the same type of MS symptoms I deal with, so I can easily relate to him. The resources for his information are excellent, and with all the above in mind, I recommend this book without hesitation.

Keep on keepin' on, Montel... and everyone else out there dealing with MS or any other chronic illness. Where there's life, there's hope!

An Extraordinary Comeback

Surely one of the most Extraordinary Comebacks -- Montel's battle against MS has been well-publicized, and this book that tells how he copes will be an inspiration to millions -- and not just those struggling with MS, but anyone fighting against any physical or emotional foe. Hats off to Montel for his courage and humility. Highly recommended.

Montel shares how to live well

And he makes it easy for everyone else to do the same! He previously wrote a book, Climbing Higher, in which he tells his readers that he has Multiple Sclerosis (MS). He talks about his struggles with the disease and how he overcame them.

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic disease that causes demyelination in the brain. The myelin is a covering or insulation of the nerves. It helps transmit action potentials, which are the electrical impulses that the nerves use to communicate with each other. When the myelin is damaged do to MS severe pain and other unwanted symptoms can result.

In this new book, Montel talks about how he has dealt with his pain and how a strict dietary regiment has helped. This book is well written, and Montel is open and honest with the emotional roller coaster he has taken when dealing with his disease. It is an inspirational book for those who have struggled in any area of life, especially those who have Multiple Sclerosis. It is a treat to see a celebrity humble himself, becoming vulnerable in the process, to his fans and peers. I recommend this book as well as the book Understanding: Train of Thought to all people, and if a person gets a percentage of satisfaction and joy out of reading these books, then he or she will have gotten his or her money's worth.

Living Well: 21 Days to Transform Your Life,

Montel shares his challenges and his specific experience with Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.) and prescribes his dietary discipline in attending to all these challenges. Living Well: 21 Days to Transform Your Life, offers dietary and other advice to individuals who are struggling with MS and other ailments as well. An excellently written book a great peek into Montel's challenges! Montel is an award winner for his TV Talk Show. This book,"Living Well: 21 Days to Transform Your Life" has also given him great acclaim!

Some other great books about the lives of private and public individuals: "Fluctuating Life", a book of poetry by Joshua Spencer which speaks to his life experiences and struggles including his fairly recent emergency surgery and encounter with poverty and discrimination in Canada. This book of poetry is really uniquely written and quite symbolic in the style of writing! He did several odd jobs in Toronto, such as washing dishes, packing grocery shelves, etc after teaching high school in his homeland, Jamaica for more than ten years!

Joshua Spencer is a teacher with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) who has only recently managed to secure a permanent teaching position ( September 1, 2007) after being in Canada since 1993! The second book is "Quest for a Dream - A Life Committed to Progress" on the life of Dr. Buchanan, an individual who has been contributing to his country in significant ways since his adolescent stage. Dr. Buchanan was also a Jamaican and died suddenly from a bloodclot on September 18, 2005.

Interestingly, Joshua Spencer and Dr. Buchanan were close friends in Jamaica. The writer, Joyce Buchanan, social worker, author, Educator and entrepreneur is a former colleague of Joshua Spencer as well. These books should be read. Ask your local libraries and bookstores to acquire these books if they don't already have them.

It has been brought to this reviewer's attention that neither "Fluctuating Life" nor "Quest for a Dream - A life Committed to Progress" is available in Canada! The question is why not?
