Prepare to be pulled into this world and this man's psyche
This is a story discussing many themes and topics we learn about in school, however Achebe's construction of the novel is so uniquely powerful, enthralling, and mind-blowing. I never truly felt the severity and the impact of colonialism nor did I ever feel that I might have common irrefutably human connections with a fictional character from a culture with which I am totally unfamiliar who is so unlike me in every way. You will feel a great wave of emotion upon reading the last line of this book. The best ending of a book ever. Marvelously crafted!
both sides
Such a simple novel, and yet so complete. You feel for the main character, even if you don't agree with him or his actions all the time. You see why the Christian mission has such appeal for outcasts in the community. And yet you mourn for the loss of the community. It makes you feel and see, from both sides.
