Dance with Dexter's Devil
Dearly Damaged
Dexter
....This series takes the idea of the anti-hero to a whole new level. Dexter is humble, self-efacing, darky sarcastic, and quite deadly. He also holds to a high moral code, Harry's Code. Yes, he manages to be a hero & a serial killer. What's more, he is a reflection in the glass of our darker self, the side we may not wish to acknowledge. Like Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal", this is a dark satirical look at human nature, taken to extremes to bring that darkness into the sun light.
Michael C. Hall's performance in this role really bring's Dexter to life, His low key, very human approach to playing a monster with a code is almost enthralling.
I am a late comer to the Dexter fan club, but I am eagerly awaiting the next DVD set. I can't wait to see what my favorite monster has in store for us viewers.

Dexter is a winner!
The
first
few episodes were a bit slow as the stage is being set for the series. After episode six, it starts to pick up and really gets exciting around episode eight. After that, it was a rush each night to get home to watch
Dexter
.
Season
two is even better than season one! I now have Showtime because of Dexter!
Ultimate Outsider
What I like most about this show is
Dexter's efforts
at (& confusion over) emotion. Since he has none of his own, he is always observing and sometimes wondering why people do the things they do. I feel like I can relate to that as I sometime wonder at the behavior of my fellow humans. To be honest, I find that more intreresting than his weekly pursuit of justice.

great, bloody fun
There are so many reviews here, and I am sure everyone will say something that might spoil it for the many who have not yet seen every episode. So my review will refrain from details.
I stumbled onto watching
Dexter
on a regular tv channel recently. It was originally a Showtime series that was being promoted to lead viewers to the new upcoming
season
3, which premiers September 2008. I immediately became very interested in this show. When it ended and said that season 3 would be coming on Showtime in September I immediately ordered Showtime so as not to miss it. I purchased the full season 1 to watch the complete series in exact order. I have watched each episode several times and found myself laughing again and again. I even picked up on missed clues that I would not have seen coming until the season was over. As I watched for the second time, third time, and even sat and watched it again with others, I still tend to pick up on stuff.
This is one heck of a good, "bloody fun" series, to keep you tuned in. It's not scary like in those stupid horror flicks, with scares that jump out at you. It is very neatly and thoughtfully written, with great characters, storylines, subplots, that keep you wanting more. Interestingly, I found that somehow I was rooting for Dexter. I thought, how can that be? I was raised with religious faith, morals, a conscience. But I feel for Dexter. He is very bright, and would be the last person I would ever suspect to be a "monster." I try to understand what a 2 or 3 year old boy can feel, or even remember. I try not to judge why he is who he is. I even wonder how many people watching, have a day of road rage, or work stress, or see a crime on the street, and would not think for just a second about doing something about it. Most people would go about their business. I am sure that most "normal" people have these thoughts. But only the Dexters in our world cross over where most of us won't go. So in a morbid sense, I thank Dexter for not being so normal and doing it for me, for us. Thanks Dexter! lol.
When the show is over I find myself thinking about morals, good conduct, and wonder as I look at people around me, 'is that person sane?' 'Could this person have a dark side, skeletons in their closet?' 'IS that the face of a criminal hiding something?' This is why Dexter is head and shoulders above regular shows. It is well worth owning. I just bought season 2 and will be looking out the window awaiting more Dexter. It is so easy to get hooked. I can't wait for September to see if any of my questions will be answered. See you there!
