Good read

I've read all of James Rollin's books. This one was good, and had his usual science and history well blended but I felt his characters were still a bit shallow. The plot with his parents was good and motivating for the character, Gray, but a bit distracting toward the end. One thing was the science/bacteria/liver flukes info dumps at the most crucial moments in the final scenes. There were too many tie ups of science going on when the action was taking center stage. I found myself skipping and wanting to get to the final point that made this all matter. Kowalski and Monk are by far the best characters. They have distinct personalities on the page, where as the rest, just talk. Siechin is intriguing and I actually liked her the best.

As good as his rest

James Rollins is most consistent in his books. If anything they get better. He is right up there with Preston, DuBrul and Cussler

Great Page Turner

The Judas Strain is the first novel by James Rollins that I have read, and I plan to come back for more. He has done enough research in the areas of biology, history, and religion to create a plausible hypothesis that reads well in today's world. His heroes have enough believable strengths, though his villains, in my opinion, fall a little short of the mark in being truly evil. His writing is easy, and he breaks his book into short chapters like the old cliff-hangers that used to play in the movies of the 1940s and 1950s. I enjoy this style of writing because the reader is constantly changing between scenarios without getting bogged down in trying to remember who is who and what is happening.

The only area that I found somewhat difficult to work with was his secret government agency SIGMA, and the ever popular malevolent world-dominating force known as the GUILD. It's a bit of a throwback to Ian Fleming's bad guys known as SMERSH or SPECTRE. Clive Cussler's NUMA is believable because it's transparent with a good purpose though its personnel always seem to get into a heap of trouble. Other than that one area I found The Judas Strain highly entertaining and has made me want to read up on the travels of Marco Polo.

I believe that anybody who buys The Judas Strain will be highly entertained and even gain some knowledge regarding biology and histrory.

O.K.

I've been reading James Rollins since Excavation came out and he is one of my favorite authors. But ever since The DaVinci code came out he has tried to write to that style of popularity. I would love for him to go back to writing original stories with new characters and leave Sigma behind. They are enjoyable reads but I can only read about church conspiracies and such for so long. I never really got into a groove with this book and it took me a while to read. With that said I gave the book 4 stars partially because of the content and also because I love the author and have been with him since the beginning.

James Rollins does it again

I have read every James Rollins book and this one does not disappoint. His plots and characters are always exciting, I just can't put the book down. Clive Cussler has always been my favorite, now I have 2 favorites as James weaves just as good a story.
