Will teach you how to learn!

GREAT BOOK!
I was tired of people telling me to do this and not do that. I was sick of some instructors telling me to use force if the horse didn't listen. And I was bored with books that you do not enjoy reading.
This book was all that is good as a book and as a source for the horse person to learn how to handle horses. All through the book Rashid tells stories about handling horses and from his past experiences with all kinds of horses. He does not tell you what is right and what is wrong, no he leaves the realization for you to achieve. But he does make sure that you will come to the right conclusion.
The most important things I learned are: Think like horses, Be patient with them, Treat them with the respect they deserve, and Be creative.
Last week I was riding a horse that was scared from one side of the arena - where there was construction - and she wouldn't go on the outer track. Some-one kept offering to ride her for five minutes and "fix" the problem with whips and spurs but I wouldn't get off. It took a week but two days ago we were cantering the entire length of the arena with not a single flinch from her. I felt so happy and proud of her. You see, at their own pace, horses do come around in the end. All we need to do is be there to encourage them and this book tells you how. I thought it would take much more than five 30-minute rides. But, hey, she wanted to run around the whole place, and she did. We were both happy!
Before reading this book. Maybe I would have considered being a little tuff with her. But now I know that force will never, NEVER no matter what, be an answer.
THANX RASHID

Refreshing Advice

This is one of the most helpful books I have ever read about working with horses. Last year I acquired an orphan foal and had never trained a horse before. Mark Rashid's book helped me to establish a philosophy of patience and understanding in my work with Samson, the orphan foal. I believe this book helped me understand that a heavy hand would not produce results but that patience and a sense of calm would go a much longer way. We are still working on learning together and when I get frustrated I try to follow his advice and slow things down into smaller steps.

must have for horse lovers!

An excellent book you'll want to keep forever! The thoughts, ideas, techniques presented will be well used by the beginner and the expert. Really makes you wonder why some horse owners find the need to use excessive force with their horses. Buy it, read it, and re-read! You and your horse will benefit!

Preaching to the converted!

Finally! I found a voice for my own beliefs! Reading "Horses never Lie" was a little like preaching to the converted, but Mark Rashid has given credibility to a training philosophy I've long held but had never seen in print. This is not a book for those thinking a horse needs to practice tasks a bazillion times or thinks the round pen is the answer to every problem. But for those who give horses credit for being smarter than most trainers, you'll love what Mark has to say.

He's the best

Mark Rashid is the best storyteller ever. I like him better than the other "natural horse" trainers. Down to earth, matter of fact, simple: that's all we need. If there were more stars to give, he'd get 'em.
