inspiring!

what an inspiring book! it effectively accesses and pulls out truths within us. it motivated me to work on my self and how i deal with people and approach my work and family. i liked the book so much that i bought a copy for everyone in my office. written by a couple, she is a consultant and social worker while he is an orchestra conductor. they might, at first glance, not seem like the most logical duo for corporate or organizational development. but, the art of self growth and leadership crosses fields. this is an outstanding book that i recommend to those committed to thinking, growing, and improving. well worth the purchase price!

Great title - not as good on the content

I finished a book last night - The Art of Possibility. Great title but not as inspiring as I had hoped. It did have one quote that I liked. A great maestro, Herbert von Karajan jumped into a taxi and shouted to the driver "Hurry, hurry". "Very good sir " where to?" said the driver. "It does not matter" said von Karajan. "I am needed everywhere".

Like all books. They may not be for me. Read it and get the gems for you. This one just did not resonate much with me.

Open YOURSELF up to a world of possibility!

This book was recommended to me several times, and I'm glad I finally found the time to read it.

Written by the husband-wife team of Ben and Ros Zander, the Art of Possibility asserts that our lives actually hold a universe of possibility right now - it is simply our frame of reference which locks us into our place.

What makes the book interesting is their tag-team approach. Ben Zander is a world-class orchestral conductor, while Ros is a psychologist. Back and forth, with fascinating stories and anecdotes, they reveal their "practices," methods of changing one's perspective to be open to the universe of possibility.

Most of their ideas are exciting and transforming. I loved the idea of facing every day asking, "How can I most contribute to helping others today?" Rule No. 6 is also a fantastic lesson, as well as the concept of empowering others to be leaders, even in nontraditional roles.

Though I did not agree with every single course of action in the book, I think TAOP invites the reader to rethink their outlook on life. For instance, TAOP implores us to avoid the "downward spiral" mode of thinking. This can be seen in the simple example of someone complaining early in the morning because they are "having one of THOSE days." How do you think someone with that frame of mind will view all the daily challenges that face him/her for the rest of that day?

It is, of course, possible that someone can read the book and not be much affected by it. Possible, but not likely. We all want to find that universe of possibility, after all - we want to be challenged. For this reason, I recommend this book.

Transforming with humor and light

I saw Ben Zander at a company event and it's the only time I've gone out and bought a book based on any corporate presentation. Ben was amazing and transformative! I know every person in our audience was moved by his examples and insight. The book is a great how-to guide to changing your view of life and how to live the way life is meant to be lived - with JOY! I love the to-do items and the easy, reference guide layout of the book.
