Not quite so fast, subtle, wonderful

I bought the U.K. version of this book when it first came out (titled Black Man). According to Mr. Morgan, the title and cover art are the only differences between the two books.

Morgan has tried something a little different in cyberpunk with this book. It's set in a (somewhat) more realistic, contemporary world, and his characters are magnificently subtle, most of them sympathetic on one level or another, all of them doomed to suffer because of the things they've done, and who and what they are, and what they can and cannot change about themselves. They're in a tough situation, with no easy answers, and what answers they do get are hard won. I couldn't put the book down. Highly recommended, especially if you like to go a little bit beyond the action in your average cyberpunk to get to know these people.

Disappointing ... but not horrible

Never connected with this book. Seemed too "blah ..blah...blah" for me. I like the rest of his books though. Especially "Altered Carbon". Get the paperback of this one.
