My All-Time Favorite
The
Last
Convertible
is a book which takes the reader on the journey from young adulthood during the time of WWII to middle age during the 60s. It's a story that evokes such emotion in the reader as they share the lives of a close-knit group of college friends who eventually separate as America enters WWII; yet, they retain a bond for years to come that revolves around the pleasure and good times they had riding to and from events and dates in one friend's convertible. Please, please, do yourself a favor and read this book.
Wonderful, yet chilling.
This novel is a wonderful tale of friendship, and all that goes along with it. It nevertheless reminds the reader of the immutable passage of time and of the fury to which the here and now subjects the characters, a fury which is soon just a distant memory. A thought provoking book for anyone and an absolute must for Harvard students and alumni.

One of those books that you don't want to see end.
One of the most enjoyable books I've ever read, The
Last Convertable
draws you into the story of a boy who learns the history of his fathers classic convertable. It story brings us back to the fathers experiences at Harvard, with the friends and relationships and adventures shared by a closeknit group. This book is broader, more expansive and colorful than The Class by Erich Segal, but in the same genre. A big book, you will find a creeping sense of panic as you begin to reach the end, because you simply will not want the story - so beautifully told, to ever end.

An excellent period story
I very much enjoyed this story and the time in which it is set. From the-edge-of-WWII to the free-thinking 60's, this book gave me a taste of American life as if I had really been there and as if the characters had been real -and my friends. I enjoyed the relationships between the characters and the turbulent times in which they lived. Also, the almost unbelievable amount of changes the world went through. Very realistic. A t.v. miniseries was made starring Bruce Boxlietner, Perry King, Deborah Raffin, Edward Albert, John Shea, and Sharon Gless. It was quite true to the novel, and both I and others that I know who had read the book were pleased with the results. Since the book appears to be out of print, maybe we at least can watch the movie again someday. I can dream, can't I?

excellent analogy of post/during/pre war America
This book is another excellent example of Anton Myerer's prowess as an author. He has captured the heart and soul of the youth of America in the late 30's. Men from different backgrounds coming together at Harvard, living, loving, growing together. Facing their own weaknesses, battling their own demons. This book follows them through college, war and to their own families and children. Myerer is an excellent author and has captured the stalwart, caring friend we would all love to have in George. The keeper of the keys, so to speak. You will fall in love with all of then, Jean-Jean, George, Russ, Chris, Dal, all of the Fabulous Fusiliers. An excellent insight into this era, for those of us who did not live through it but perhaps wished we had. This novel is surpassed only by Myerer's "Once an Eagle". You will not want to put it down.
