Island of the Blue Dolphin

Island of the Blue Dolphins
By Scott O'Dell
Emily Golden

Have you ever been stranded or left some where alone? Well that's the case for Karana, a brave, thoughtful, and loving 12 year old girl. She gets stranded on her Indian tribe's island, after some greedy, and disrespectful, Aleuts came to hunt otters on their island. Karana learns how to find food, and make weapons to save herself from her enemies, the wild dogs. The wild dogs killed her brother Ramo. She also makes some friends along the way like Rontu, who used to be the pack leader of the wild dogs. Later on Rontu realizes that Karana is kind and will take good care of him and not hurt him like he thinks she will.
Scott O'Dell is an exquisite author because he makes it feel like you are really struggling to live on the island of the blue dolphins with Karana. Also it's so amazing because the word use is not too easy or to hard, it's just right. With the description in this book it's like your right there with Karana. I would recommend this book to any one, it doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl, or if like sad books, happy books, or exciting books, it is any and every type of book you could ever like. Everyone everywhere needs to read this book.

Island of the Blue Dolphins

I read the book Island of the Blue Dolphins. This is a wonderful adventure book. Karana is the main character of the story. She is a villager in the Ghalas-at tribe on the Island of the Blue Dolphins. When a ship came to the island to take the villagers to a new land, she got left behind. Finally, one of her biggest enemies became her best friend.

I found three new opinions in this book. Friends will do anything to help or protect you. Your enemies can become your friends. It is not a good idea to make deals with strangers.

I also learned some interesting facts. I learned that Karana was a real person. She was really known as The Lost Woman of San Nicolas. I also learned that the Island of Blue dolphins is a real place but its real name is La Isla de San Nicolas. Finally, the Indians of Ghalas-at had disappeared.

I would recommend this book for three reasons. Once you start reading you won't want to stop. It is full of action and adventure. It has many surprises too.

I think that if you like adventures, you will love this book.

Excellent Reading!

I read this book when I was in middle school and loved it! The heroine is a strong female who is very capable of taking care of herself. Her bravery and intelligence is an excellent example for young girls to learn from. I still have this book today and when my children are old enough I hope they will enjoy it as much as I did. It's a fabulous read for any age.
