Excellent and Most Useful Book

Despite the some what tacky and promising the world nature of the title, I found this book to be quite useful. The principles espoused in it could quite easily be adapted to other life changing searches such as changing careers or finding a job. I particularly found the part on identifying what I was actually looking for useful. I found that some of the things that I thought were important in a potential partner were on reflection (with guidance from the book) not so important to me. The identification of hidden ambivalence is also useful. Page identifies that often the greatest barrier in our lives to finding an intimate partner is our own ambivalence to relationships. Once you have identified the ambivalence you can deal with it. She offers some useful tips for doing this. There seems to be a quite solid common sense psychology at the basis of most of her advice. She also gives some practical advice on techniques for increasing the chances of meeting the right person! ! and confronts some of the pseudo-statistical myths that many people use as excuses for getting into relationships (e.g. there is not enough available men/women around). My general advice would be for anyone thinking of reading this book to buy a journal and do all the exercises as you read, particularly the ones at the beginning.

A break-through book

Despite a title that makes you want to cover the book in brown paper, I found this book to be one of the most insightful on the subject. It helped me clarify what I'm looking for in a mate and has helped me avoid "Better-Than-Nothing" relationships. I highly recommend it for the recently divorced, as it will help them understand why they married as they did. The subject of hidden ambivalence was the most insightful. Now that I've resolved my own ambivalence, I can usually identify it in others. I especially found the straightforward and pragmatic approach to dating to be results-producing. If every single person read this book, we'd have more well-suited marriages!

Outstanding - For all singles, not just the marriage minded!

Page talks about "BTN's" - Better Than Nothing relationships, pseudo-intimacy (the fireplace, wine and sex before you know each other) and other very real pitfalls. I've read this at different stages of my "singlehood" and have learned each time. I've shared it with female friends who have found it good enough to share with their friends. Any healthysingle should find this meaningful. I've seen it help those interested in marriage, the dating and even those currently alone. My only criticism is that Page does sometimes seem to contradict herself and be on a mission to marry at any cost
