still one of my favorites 35 years later

i loved this book. i want my daughter (and even my son) to read it. It was the first book i read from the adult section of the library--my mother "forced' me to read this. Anyone have this book and want to sell it to me? How do we get this back on the shelves?

Marvelous!

This book is what I call "beautifully wrapped gift, that makes a boring present look marvelous". Namely, I am one of those incomprehensible people, who find history pretty boring. But Desiree... With this book I got entirely different view on history. I have learned, that historical facts can be fun, entertaining and thrilling. I couldn't get away from this book, actually... Thank you, Annemarie Selinko!!

Wonderful

I just read this book, this summer. I am 13 and my mom brought it home for me, since I had already gotten through all of my books. At first I wondered why is she bringing it to me, it's too long. But later I got so into it I could not put it down. At 2:00AM I would be saying one more chapter, then I'll go to bed. It threw so many differant emotions at me, I cant describe it. But I definatly recomend it. It will be the best book you ever read. And I would love to buy a copy if anyone is selling it.

Loved it!

I first read this book when I was about 13. Since I was named after her, I was very interested in finding out more about this facinating woman. It has captured me ever since. I was lucky enough to find a copy in a used book store. And now I get to re-read it all the time. It's amazing to think how this woman affected European history.
