I'm surprised

It's time for the uh, older woman to clock in and make remarks about this book.
Like many other readers, I enjoyed this book more than I expected I would -- the title is off-putting. Knowing that it had been a bestseller, I picked it up cheap at a library sale.
Though I am probably older than the main character's mother, I enjoyed the book and could relate to it. I'm not a large, overweight (well, okay, I'm overweight NOW - but I'm also old!) Jewish girl, yet there are elements of the "Cannie" character that hit me right where I live: feelings of confusion about men caused by having a difficult father; feelings of feminine doubt and/or fearfulness existing side-by-side with strength; mixed feelings about pregnancy; being a writer and thinking you'll never get published; wanting a lot of money; and more.
I found myself weeping during the scenes in which Cannie (WHY such an awful name? she might as well be called Buttie or Bottley) has her um, medical emergency (don't want to be a spoiler here!). And, I didn't quite know why. What I suspect is that the situation and its portrayal reached to some deep levels of the psyche -- a mark of a fine writer, and something which elevates the book above simple beach fiction. Still, there is a bit too much wish-fulfillment and fantasy for me, though I feel conflicted about that also -- after all, didn't Jane Austen's heroines wind up with hubbies and money? (oops....)
If an old snob liked me liked the book, I think a younger woman, closer to Cannie's age and situation, might really resonate to it. But what do I know?

Good read!

I really enjoyed going through all of Cannie's emotions on her incredible journey. It's been a long time since I've been able to escape in some good fiction. If you like chick lit, this is a great book! I'm a 35 year old married mother of two and I loved every bit of this book as much as the single gal. In fact, it was a single friend of mine who recommended I read it. I laughed ... I felt angry ... and I cried. It was a great book and I'd love to read a sequel...or see it as a movie!

If you like Jennifer Weiner, I recommed listening to this

I really enjoyed this little story. I drive a hour a day to work; and had a lot of fun listening to it. Its a no brainer kind of story but sweet and fun.

My favorite Jenifer Weiner Novel

This book if fantastic. Every single (woman) that I have spoken to about this book, or recommended to the book to has loved it. It's easy and fun to read, and you can relate to the main character. Despite the title, "good in bed" really doesn't have much to do with the actual novel.
The title derives from an ex's new magazine article in which he describes "loving a larger woman." It's hysterical. Any woman who has ever felt that they are too heavy, too large of thigh or butt, will love the self deprectating and spot on humor in this novel.
My other favorite by Jen Weiner are Little Earthquakes.
