Simple Church is Simply Strategic:

This book is a must read for any church leadership team that is serious about introducing people to Jesus and having a plan for them to grow in Christ. Simple Church gives that context and tools to create a process that will result in individuals growing in Christ throughout the church. Based on empherical evidence the authors discovered that program based larger churches were not producing disciples. A lot of activity going on, but not much to brag about when it came to results.

Our church staff has taken the insightful findings in the book and crafted a simple process that anyone can follow to become more like Christ. The book has been an invaluable guide for us. It has revolutionized not only what we do, but what we don't do!

It's a book that every church leadership team should read.

Simple Church is simply great

Simple Church is a great book for churches that are looking for help with organization and focus in their ministry. As part of a small, young church, we are looking for ways to make our efforts more productive for God's kingdom and be more efficient in our processes. This book has helped us to narrow our focus and see the big picture. Two thumbs up!!!

Clarity. Movement. Alignment. Focus

The mission of the church is simple: "Make disciples" (Matt. 28:19). Unfortunately, the discipleship process in many churches is anything but simple. How do you know if your church's discipleship process matches the simplicity of its mission?

Ask yourself the following four questions:

1. Is my church's discipleship process clearly stated and understood by all?
2. Does it channel movement along a trajectory from unbelief toward mature belief?
3. Are the church's programs aligned with this process?
4. Is the church focused enough on its process to eliminate programs that don't align with it?

If you can answer yes to each of these questions, then your church has a simple discipleship process.

If not, then you should read Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger's Simple Church: Returning to God's Process for Making Disciples. Using biblical teaching, true-life stories, and statistical analysis, the book shows the connection between the vibrancy of a church and the simplicity of its discipleship process. Rainer and Geiger drive home the importance of four basic concepts: clarity, movement, alignment, and focus. And they provide concrete suggestions for using these concepts to design and evaluate effective church programs.

As a new senior pastor, I found Simple Church to be very helpful for diagnosing what is and is not working at my church, and why. As I work with my church's leaders to develop a new discipleship process, I will undoubtedly return to Simple Church regularly for good advice.

Very helpful. Recommended for all Christian leaders....

I recommend this book for all Christians serious about our pursuit of Christ. This is not only for 'paid' Church leaders but for all believers participating in 21st century church. Understanding the findings helps believers understand what so often ails us systematically - and how we may remedy it.

That said, I believe the authors should have been more prescriptive about the fact that 'small groups'/'care groups' as a Biblically necessary part of being 'simple'. I'd bet that a statistical analysis of their churches will show small groups to be highly significant to a vibrant church. I don't see how one could have an authentic and simple church without having small groups as the church grows in size.

Secondly, though no fault of the authors, another prescriptive key to being 'simple' is the regaining of the centrality of family in church structures including the small groups. For this, one need to read some of the cutting edge writing arising out of the homeschool movement.

it's good

I think it has some great ideas and is going to be a help in my ministry planning. But as with all of Thom Rainer's books, it is too wordy and needs to be to the point. I like his research, but to be honest, add it as an appendix. I dont need to know that 83% of all simple church said it. If it is a good idea, then I will use it.
