Exquisite - a must read

Every part of this book moved me. I was very caught up in the whole story, it was moving from start to finish, I enjoyed the way the author detailed different stories yet at each point, it all still flowed and came together. What strength, courage, love, support the family and friends gave. Without a doubt, I would highly recommend this book!!

Traveling Light--a good read

This is a book which deals with difficult events in a sensitive way. It describes death from AIDS accurately as extremely difficult for the person dying and equally difficult for loved ones. It places AIDS in the context of homophobia, an additional burden on all involved. The main chaaracter, Summer, has to deal with her brother's AIDS, his approaching death, and her loss of a brother who is more of a parent than a sibling. It is, in addition, a love story--love between her brother, Todd, and his partner Jacob, as well as sibling love.

A really nice effort for a first novel by the author. I hope to see more from her.

A wonderful new talent has arrived.

I agree with everyone else-this is a five star book. It's an exceptional first novel that ranks up there with Anne Tyler and Elizabeth Berg. It's emotional and gripping, and more than that it feels true. I can't wait for the talented Katrina Kittle's next book. I hope that she's already at work on it!

Very thought provoking.....

This is a wonderful, thought provoking story of discovering what love really is, what makes a family a family and how acceptance is a part of each of these, acceptance of others and of self. It is the story of a young teacher named Summer who moves in with her dying brother to help care for him. Their parents live on a farm nearby and are taking care of the grandmother who has cancer. The story intertwines all the characters so beautifully, and each person is so real, so well developed that the story takes root in your heart. It deals with prejudices, and reverse prejudice (hating someone because they hate you) and seeing beyond those feelings to the humanity of each person. It is an uplifting story,(even though I cried through many parts,) and it was impossible to not continue reading this. This was one those stories that when you are away from the book, you continue to think about it. This was an excellent story.

Good Book

Here we are, reading a book about a very discriminatory topic: gay relationships. Yet, I felt when reading this book, if only heterosexual love could always be this fulfilling and deep. Todd and Jacob definitely got the idea of commitment and love RIGHT in this book. We should all do as well. While I (a heterosexual) have no bias whatsoever to the gay lifestyle, I hold optimism, through this book, that those struggling with acceptance of this issue will find their answers here. The only part of the book I didn't really care for was Summer's extremely long lasting confusion about Nicholas. I loved the quotes throughout the book. 'Think I will write some of those down to pass along to others. Many were very inspirational. Good job on this book.
