A Terrific Page Turner!
Eric Dickey's "Sleeping with Strangers" was for me just a terrific book. I eagerly read it over a two day period. The story moved along a fast pace with violence and a plot that kept me glued to the pages. The sex scenes were a bit much, but fortunately it didn't take away from the unusual main character,
Gideon
, as I found myself rooting for him at every turn. I think that was a result of the author spending a large amount of time developing his character traits. But then now that I think about it all the characters are well defined. I thought that the story was lacking in the mystery department. Overall, the book was an excellent read and I would gladly recommend it to my friends.

Didn't Flow Like Sleeping With Strangers
I loved "Sleeping with Strangers", and that's why it pains me to say that "
Waking with
Enemies
" fell terribly short of my expectations. Wow! What else can I say? It seemed as though there was a mad rush to the finish line with this book. Sex, sex, sex, sex, and even more sex but very little else. The action was brought to a screeching halt, and then there was even more sex (and I am never offended and rarely bored by the subject) but come on Dickey.
Anyway, I have not been able to force myself to finish this book. So, I don't even know if it will be worth it in the end. However, I am more than half way through, and yet, when I do resume this book I will be starting at yet another `sexcapade'. I think I would have been better off being left in suspense after "Sleeping with Strangers".
Again I state that "Sleeping with Strangers" was absolutely the best. I wish Dickey would have just finished it up in a few extra chapters.
If you picked up this book before reading "Sleeping with Strangers", please note that you can't judge Dickey based on this alone. Please read the first book.
*** UPDATE ***
Well, it would have been easy to just erase some of what I wrote, but I just want to show that sometimes you just have to push through and get to the end of the book. So, I pushed through, what I thought, was an obsessive amount of sex (with a hint of, uhhhh, sex), and I found that it was well worth my efforts.
I finally finished this book, and I enjoyed the last half of it immensely. Midway through the book, Dickey finally got back to the intensity that began with "Sleeping with Strangers". Just like the first book, the characters were amazing.
"Sleeping with Strangers" and "Waking with Enemies" are both worth reading.

HMMM, EJD........DRAMA OR EROTICA???
Well,
Gideon
is back, in all of his hotness, his mental anguish/turmoil, and his life-threatening action. However...I have to say there is more Gideon hotness present in this novel than anything else. The story opens with a summary of Gideon's childhood, and the drama involving his mother; something most of us probably did not require if we read this novel's predecessor, Sleeping With Strangers. Rather quickly it launches into sex scenes....threesomes, specifically, involving Gideon and the women in the story. Eventually we move on to the hitman who has been contracted to end Gideon's life....and of course, in addition to his pursuit, he is also engaged in his own romantic interludes. And Arizona, the woman who has stolen Gideon's heart makes her own return...in more ways than one in this tale.
There is action to be had in this novel...Gideon is, after all, an assassin. But if you are looking for pure action--involving guns and knives rather than the flesh--this may not be for you. This EJD tale simply does not contain enough of the former to warrant a read, if that is the case. But most EJD fans will find this books a satisfying marriage of both. Although I must say...this author certainly could launch a career in the erotica genre, if he hasn't already.

Too Much Freakin & Not Enough Action
My title says it all. More sex in the book than anything. So much so you get tired of it. I admit I had to fast foward to get to the niddy griddy & what I excepted when I picked up this book which was action, murder & suspense. Not enough compared to its originator "Sleeping with Strangers". Kinda disappointed that this was the follow-up.
