Great book on how a young girl gets her with her world, "school".
Stephanie realizes the power of influence on friends and teachers at school. It's corny, fun, and exciting to read and great to listen to Munsch tell it himself. This story is great for reading groups at school for the predicting skill in reading. Enjoy, kids and teachers. I'm sure its a favorite among all children.

Terrific book about peer pressure and individuality

Stephanie just wanted to go to school with a ponytail. But first the other kids make fun of her hairstyle, and then they all decide to wear their hair the same way. Each time Stephanie changes her hairstyle, she is berated (Ugly, ugly, very ugly!) and then copied. But Stephanie get even with them! She tells them she will shave her head, and sure enough... everyone shows up at school bald as a baby, except Stephanie, wearing a ponytail in the back. The last two pictures in this book are hysterically funny.

My kids love this book. It gives us a nice springboard to discuss whether they like to be trendsetters or followers, and how they feel when someone copies their original ideas. This is one of Munsch's best, and he is GOOD.

Review of Robert Munsch's Book: Stephanie's Ponytail

It's funny! It's kind of weird. Actually, Stephanie's kind of weird in a good sort of way like some kids are.
Stephanie's also a leader, not a follower. And Munsch uses her ponytail to show how much of a leader Stephanie is.
Stephanie also has heart and that's what makes her an especially likable little girl. She has so much heart that she makes me laugh...a lot.
Stephanie doesn't have a care in the world about how ridiculous she looks. A ponytail on the side. A ponytail sticking out the back. A ponytail on top.
I'm surprised Munsch didn't have Stephanie wear a ponytail inside a ponytail!
Each time Stephanie paved a new road, other kids followed her lead. Again and again, the other kids did what Stephanie did first.
I give Munsch one star for originality. I give Munsch another star for being funny. I give him a third star for making Stephanie a leader.
I give Stephanie her own star for not being a follower. Munsch and Stephanie share a fifth star because they are stars!

This book is a MUST read!

This book is absolutely fantastic. I loved the repetition of the words UGLY, UGLY, UGLY. I loved trying to predict what Stephanie was going to do next. I loved the way Stephanie tried every day to outwit the other students and I love the way she outsmarted everyone! I was guessing until the very end and I still couldn't guess the ending. I can't wait to buy all of Robert Munsch's books.

stephanie's ponytail

I enjoyed reading this book for 2 reasons.
1:My class was doing an auther study on Robert Munch.
2:I read it because I thought it was a great book myself.Stephanie's is filled with funny, but also is telling us that we have to be a leader and not only a follower.
