I loved this book!

This book really covers the spectrum of emotions..I laughed I cried. It was an easy read but a great one. It made me appreciate my pup so much more. Gracie was such an "amaxing" dog and the way Dan Dye tells their story is just so heart touching. I recomend this book to anyone and everyone. If you not sure if all the work of a new pup is worth it . READ THIS BOOK, f you've lost a pet READ THIS BOOK....

It Will Touch Your Heart

What a great story! Gracie was a deaf great dane that nobody wanted, except Dan Dye. He wanted the black sheep of the litter, the one little dog sitting by herself on the other end of the room. Nobody saw any good in this dog, and felt she was more of a burden than anything because she was deaf, but Dan Dye loved her and made her a part of his life. In turn, she changed his entire life. She caused he and his best friend's dream to come true. The stories are funny and touching from beginning to finish. Gracie truly was a big sweetheart. Gracie was portrayed vividly in this book - as she was in real life...as a dog with real smarts, a sweet and loving heart, a playful spirit, and truly man's best friend. It was a reminder to me that our dogs have thoughts and feelings and they need us too.

I laughed my head off at times, I was in awe at times, and I cried my eyes out at the end, but I am so glad I read this book. It really is a very happy dog story. It made me want to spend more time with my two wonderful and lovely dogs; to take them on more walks, to play with them more and not leave them to entertain themselves. All in all, it will bring you closer to your pets. Great book!

super read

From the very first page it is a wonderful read, especially if you are a dog lover. The stories about Gracie are heartwarming and funny, I couldn't put the book down. I would recommend this book to people of all ages.

Deliciously wonderful!

This book was so hilarious! It is well written and witty. Very difficult to put down. [Unfortunately when I did put it down, the dogs picked it up!] Even though the last few pages were read through teeth marks, this was definitely a worthwhile library book to replace. I can't wait to read Mr. Dan Dye's next book! He has a real knack for writing and phrasing his mishaps. If you have a deaf dog (or any dog) you will readily relate to his daily adventures and love for his dog Gracie.

"Amazing Gracie" is AMAZING...

I am in the process of adopting a great dane puppy, although not deaf, albino, or all white, due to come home to us at the end of February (2004). I always liked the name Gracie, even before reading this book, because these dane babies are so foal-like in their growing up stage and quite clumsy, hence the name, Grace. "Watch it, Grace," would surely become a normal quotation in my household...then I saw this book listed on Amazon, and ordered it immediately. I could not put this book down. Dan Dye tells this story in such animation that you can actually visualize every sentence that he writes and I can envision myself in his home and in all the scenes that happen. If forever reason, Three Dog Bakery takes a nose dive, Dan should be a full time writer, as he brings his stories to life on paper. Very few writers can capture the feeling for the reader to be in the scene themselves, and I laughed at every page, and could NOT PUT THIS ONE DOWN! The very last sentence made me cry, because you could feel the attachment and the love for this dog that was not found by the breeder, and should awaken every animal breeder that not all mistakes are actually MISTAKES. There is a wonderful, loving animal behind every disability, and if you take the time to understand the 'abilities' of these animals and not their disabilites, they would never be considered 'discards'. (It doesn't hurt to know, I have two children with disabilities, and if we parents treated our kids with the same "throw away mentality" the way breeders treat their non-moneymakers, there would little compassion and acceptance left in the world) . God Bless Dan Dye for showing the world there is a place for every animal, and that they each have many lessons to offer and teach us, if given the chance. This book is meant for everyone who has a heart and even for those who need to remember that they had one at one time, but have lost it. Our Gracie, or Baby G, is coming home in two weeks, and I may be writing my own story, too. Thank you for offering us such a wonderful book.
