Russ Porter

This was a good read. The characters are compelling and the story is well-told.

A Great Debut

Walking Lazarus is a fast paced thriller with lots of twists and turns.

As one might surmise from the title, it features a character, Jude Allman, who has died and come back to life. In his case, this has happened three times. It is fast paced and hard to put down.

Along with some dark sides, it contains some spiritual elements and some underlying Christian themes. It is also published by a Christian book distributor. Although it will be enjoyed by those who love great Christian fiction like Peretti and Dekker, I suspect that it will also be enjoyed by those who prefer Koontz and Stephen King.

For the record, although I am from Montana as is this author, I don't know him and have never met him.

I highly recommend this book. Buyers will not be disappointed.

Spectacular Debut - Future Cult Classic

If you're a book maven--one of those people Gladwell described as someone who has to be in the know, someone whose psychology drives them to be the first to discover creative gems and evangelize those gems to everyone they know--then you owe it to yourself to pick up this book. TL Hines is one of those rare authors whose voice and vision eclipse the market environment in which he was published. WAKING LAZARUS is a book that has legs, that will be read and reread years from now. It's destined to be a cult classic, and the author is destined to carve out a niche for himself alongside the best writers of our time.

WAKING LAZARUS has already been favorably compared to the early writing of Stephen King, and the comparison is evident early on. The writing is clear and contemporary, the storytelling tight and focused, the characters real and rounded. With touches of horror and suspense, this is a thriller that will touch a broad audience. One hopes that Bethany House will use this title as a launching point for mass market sales; this is a book that deserves to sit alongside NYT Bestselling conteporaries, that rare book that fares will compared to anything on the market and genuinely deserves every ounce of praise it gets.

Sink your teeth into Waking Lazarus

T.L.Hines first novel, Waking Lazarus, is what a whole lot of people have been clamoring for in Christian Fiction.

Edgy is the mildest adjective to describe this compelling read. Not only did I snarf it down, but my non-book reading husband glommed onto it. Fortunately, he worked late the next night, and left the book at home so I curled up in my bedroom and finished Waking Lazarus.

He doesn't read as fast as I do and I've gone to sleep the past two nights with a bedside light shining in my eyes.

This read is not easy on the emotions. The squeamish may want to avoid it. Nor is it a book that contains a sermon in every chapter. My hubby voiced a few concerns over the evil presence in the book, and wondered aloud if he wanted to keep reading. But the story has him hooked, and the evil, like all evil, ultimately answers to God.

Waking Lazarus is an extremely well-written look into a fascinating character and a unique story line.

Paranoia, Resurrection and Burlap ...

Jude Allman isn't your typical hero. He's a mentally ill janitor who has an odd habit of dying and coming back to life. Everyone wants the same thing from him: to know what's on the other side. To run from his notoriety, he changes his identity and sinks into his own private world of paranoia and shadows. Until a woman who knows his past shows up at his door, forcing him to ponder things he never wanted to think of again.

Waking Lazarus is not a flowery, purple prose type of literary book. It's suspense written to be a page turner. The characters are real, quirks, flaws and all. The storyline of the serial killer stalking children is gritty, but not too much so as Mr. Hines is careful to keep the grisly details "off stage."

Waking Lazarus ended with a couple of unexpected twists, adding to the satisfaction of the read. All in all, I found this book to be a wonderful first novel and exactly the type of book I've been hoping would come out of the CBA. My highest praise both to this author and the editor who took a chance on it.

Waking Lazarus is tight, fast paced, gritty, and inspiring. A definite recommend.
