Shurtleff's book is great... so great I became a director
Michael Shurtleff is one of few, in the vast ocean of resources available out there, that really
know
s his stuff. Don't waste your time with other books. So great an affect his book had on me, I quit the profession of acting and become a director. Someday I'll resurface as an
actor
but in my own films and in my own way. Cheers
THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN ABOUT AUDITIONING!
I got this book on a loan from my voice instructor when I went out for an
audition
of Tartuffe. I didn't make it, but I started reading the book, and it has helped me a lot! I got my next audition thanks to the tips, and guideposts. And even though I've read it completely through, I keep reading it over and over again. It has become my theater bible. I suggest anyone who has any desire to act read it. Even if you have no trouble with auditions, because it'll only help you improve.

right on the money!!!!
This book will not only give you the insight and the
know
-how on how to
get
it together, but it's chock full of humorous anecdotes and phrases. The great thing is that not only can you use these techiniques towards acting, but they also work EXTREMELY well for job interviews and life as a general rule. It is more of a Real Life 101 and how to deal with directors (i.e bosses, teachers) It serves a multi-faceted purpose. Every
actor/actress should
own two copies (in case somebody steals one).
I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E!!!
My acting teacher is actually using this book as our textbook (undergrad intermediate theatre class)! It isn't only guidelines for
audition
ing, it is a guideline for acting. The book explains how to look at a character in a way that I have never thought. My acting has improved incredibly because of this book.

This is a wonderful tool for EVERY actor!
I am a tech but due to class requirements, I have to act as well. I read it when I first got it (several years ago) and I'm reading it again and discovering things I had missed before. Even if you are not becoming an
actor
or really studying acting, it gives perspective on not only acting but human behavior as well. It's wonderful reading no matter how many times you read it!
