This was fun to read...

I really enjoy Seth Godin's way of writing. His books have always kept me turning the pages...And even opening up boxes. I know this is a business book, and heaven forbid we have fun with it, but All Marketers Are Liars is extremely fun to read. It's easy to digest, it has very clear points and you do not need a translator to decode the messages. A very good marketing resource!


A Matter of Perspective

If you read Seth Godin's books for the exercise in innovation, you may be disappointed in this book. But if you read this book to understand positioning, you will likely find it beneficial. Different perspectives, different results - that's the gist of this book. Marketers are tasked with projecting products in a positive and differentiating light. Godin asserts that whether consumers buy these stories is a matter of: 1) alignment with reality and 2) the consumer's perspective. The problem is that marketers often try to control the latter. The book doesn't really address this facet; in fact, some examples tout exagerations as successes (ex. a brand of glasses that improves a wine's taste). Godin asserts that marketers aren't really liars but, again, that's a matter of perspective.

Godin is Right

I loved this book. Godin's premise is that consumers want to view themselves a particular way and good marketeers market to what consumers want to hear. For instance, the person who buys free range chicken and organic milk at Whole Foods thinks of him or herself as caring about the environment and human health and Whole Foods plays this up, even when selling vegan chocolate donuts. Book also talks about how marketing can be a true value added item for companies. As an American involved in global business, I found it somewhat comforting because America is still the leading marketer and there is nothing out there to indicate that will be changing soon.

Seth is the Michael Jordan of Marketing

From Purple Cow to Permission Marketing, Seth Godin hits the bullseye once again with ALL MARKETERS ARE LIARS. This is arguably one of the most engaging marketing books out there today. Rather than make a point only to regurgitate it over and over again, Seth keeps you engaged throughout the entire book with a sleu of powerful examples and stories. Once you finish reading this book, you will feel empowered to start something with your new found knowledge. At least I did.

Besides his great lineup of books, you may also want to check out his online blog as well. Probably the best advice you will ever recieve on the subject. And its completely FREE. It's like growing up playing basketball and your dad being Michael Jordan. You get nothing but the best coaching and advice everyday of your life, for free. Check it out.

This is a FIV E cushy chair book

Quick Review: One of the best I have read in a long time! The title tells us that people are not really concerned about he facts of the product they are concerned about the story of the product. When you market you must craft your story to fit the consumer's worldview. Seth does a great job in laying out the story behind his book in an easily readable way!

I recommend it highly!
