Much better than "The Gunslinger"

I felt the first book of "The Dark Tower" series "The Gunslinger" was ok, but this book, "The Drawing of Three" was much better. Even though this book still does not answer much about Rolands quest for the Dark Tower it was a fun and exciting read. The way King describes each passage through the doorway was wonderful. The different characters were exciting, I especially liked Eddie Bean. There were a few good surprises in this book between the main characters, which was very well done. This book is enough for me to continue reading the series and to see what is in store Roland as his quest continues.

A true adventure and a true hero

The Gunslinger series are the best "series" of books I have ever read. I first found Roland and his friends while driving truck 48 States Canada And Mexico. I soon bought the entire set in Audio Book. Not only is it a great story the reader of the audio book (unabriged) made it feel like you Where in the story. I actually had to pull over a few times to listen to certain parts cause you where drawn in with the suspence. Great books. One thing many don't know about the stories though is If you read Hearts In Atlantis it incorperates the Gunslinger in to that book. So tell me Mr.King was that a hint a new one is almost here??? King's best.

I used to love King's horror as a child, but got sick of him around Gerald's Game. Most of the stuff I'd read I regarded as fluff, no substance. Except The Gunslinger. I could not escape the power of Roland of Gilead and his quest. All the books have their high points, with the original being at the top of my list. I hold King with a grain of salt, but these and Different Seasons still capture for me what literature is all about.

I only started the series this summer, and now I'm done. Maybe its a good thing I didn't start this series in earlier years (seeing how long it took Mr.King to write the 4th book...I'd have died of impatience)The Dark Tower I: the Gunslinger is the best and most outstanding book in this series. It surpasses any other fantasy/sci-fi book I have ever read, thanks in due part to it's use of magical realism and use of the grotesque. King blends blue jeans with dark wizards, creating a fresh idea that isn't silly, but bizarre, and makes the brain do flips and doubletakes. The idea that all the universes in the (galaxy?) are centered around a nexus point (which is the dark tower) that is deteriorating, is the focus of the story. Roland is the man who is fated to save us all, with the power of ka. The Second book, the Drawing of the Three was simply great fun to read. Roland and his old and other-worldly ways, trying to mingle with twentieth century New York. The idea of doors between worlds isn't a new one, but somehow King manages to give it a push and a twist. The third book, The Waste Lands, is more horror driven (and you can see King's skills as an author of adult horror genre kicking in) but nevertheless keeps the eyes glued to the pages. Although I must say the ending was a bit abrupt. Who knows? Maybe its a marketing technique. It's really quite too bad not all editions come with illustrations though...

Dark Tower Series

I am not a Stephen King fan. Although he is an excellent writer, his books generally give me the creeps, and I won't read them. However, the Dark Tower Series is different. I have read all four of these books and found them fascinating. I would highly recommend to anyone the reading of this series. It is truly some of his best work, and I hope that he will continue to add to this series.
