Silence the Whispers

Hayden Olsen was ten years old when he found is father dead. Paul Olsen wrote a note stating that he had kidnapped his employer's daughter, Cameron Somerton, for the ransom money. He then shot himself. Hayden never believed that his father committed suicide though. Twenty-eight years later Hayden is still desperate to discover what really happened and now he has a chance to find out from Cameron.

Cameron has never been the same since she was kidnapped as a child. The horrifying ordeal left her afraid and wary of everything and everyone. Cameron and her stepfather, Robert, are enemies who have to live along side of each other. Needless to say, Cameron's life is trying and full of pain and heartache.

Hayden is discovering that nothing makes sense and Cameron is one giant contradiction after another and yet he is drawn to her. Hayden's quest to discover the truth of his father's death is becoming something much more than he bargained for. Cameron's life is clearly in danger, but helping her means telling her who he really is and then he may lose the woman he has come to care for.

In Silence The Whispers, the further the story goes, the deeper the suspense grows. I simply could not put it down by the middle. I was anxious to solve the mysteries and I was desperate for Cameron to find some peace within herself and with Hayden. Although it was understandable that she would be so distrusting, I was still a little frustrated at Cameron's constant and often times cruel denial of her feelings towards Hayden. Hayden's acceptance of it was surprising as well, but the intense and deeply emotional storyline kept me riveted. I was very pleasantly surprised that the ending was not what I thought it would be but rather something much better. Silence The Whispers is a story that will grab you and not let go until it's dramatic and emotional conclusion.

Wonderful.

At the vulnerable age of six, Cameron "Cammie" Somerton had been kidnapped. Her mother, Katherine, and step-father paid the two million ransom demand only to be met with silence afterward. Shortly thereafter, Katherine went up in her hot air balloon to search for her daughter and died when it exploded. Dirty and malnourished, little Cammie came staggering out of the woods on the same day as her mother's funeral. She had been missing fourteen days.

The media went into an uproar when the body of Paul Olson, the estate's gardener, was found by his own young son, Hayden. A confession note had been in Paul's hand and five-hundred thousand dollars surrounded his body. But ten-year-old Hayden never believed that his father was guilty. Neither did Hayden's mother; however, the grieving widow shielded her children as best she could and left the area as soon as they were able.

After twenty-eight years, Hayden is ready for some answers. He is now an executive in a Missouri greenhouse and gardening supply company. Hayden has slowly and privately learned all he could about that terrible time and all the people it involved. The rest of the ransom money had never been located. The time is right for him to follow the money trail. Thus, he returns to the Somertons' Oklahoma estate. But the adult Cammie is nothing like the one he knew as a child. She does not remember much during that time in her life and does not remember him at all. Sure he could use this to his advantage, he rents a house and begins his probing. What he never expected was to develop feelings for Cammie.

Cameron recalls little of those horrid days she spent at the hands of her kidnapper. The adult Cameron has hunted endlessly through the property and woods nearby for any kind of mine, cave, crude basement, or old storm cellar that may have seemed like a hole in the ground to her six-year-old self. Due to the trauma, Cameron kept lucky charms and bells nearby. Routine is VERY important to her. And she has learned to be tough. She never lets anyone know of the voices that whisper within her mind. Per Katherine's will, if Cameron were mentally unfit, her step-father would control all the Somerton assets. So Cameron keeps the whispers to herself, never lets the holes in her memory take over, and prays that no one notices that she is beginning to forget little things. Cameron feels safe when she is with Hayden, her renter. But can she trust him with her body and not her heart? As the two become close, someone becomes nervous. That someone believes that murder is a small price to pay to kept dirty secrets buried.

**** If you know anything about psychology, then you will recognize the classic symptoms of Dissociative Identity Disorder within this novel. I found the story to be unlike any I have read before. Author Cait London clearly did a lot of research on the subject. Since I have known someone with the disorder, I found myself astounded at how well the author described the adult Cammie's routine and fears. Cait London even nailed the tiny things, the eccentrics. This made the story very realistic. Expect chills as you read this suspense filled book! ****

Sultry suspense enlivened by genuine wit. Loved it!

This author's best, bar none. Great cast of characters, intriguing plot and a couple of laugh-out-loud moments as tough-guy Hayden learns to exploit Cameron's weakness for 'sensitive' males.

terrific romantic suspense

Eleven days ago near Mimosa, Oklahoma someone kidnapped six years old Cammie Somerton, heir to millions; her mother paid the ransom of two million immediately, but the child was not returned. The police question the gardener Paul Olson as a prime suspect. Desperate, Cammie's mother Katherine, a noted balloonist, takes to the air only to have her balloon explode. Not long afterward Paul's ten years old son H.J. finds his dad dead, a bullet in his head and a note saying he was sorry; $500k was near him. When a dazed Cammie comes out of the woods safe, the police close the tragic case.

Twenty-eight years later, Hayden Olson tells his mother he needs to know the truth as he does not believe his dad committed the atrocity that ran the family out of town; Hayden thinks Cammie's stepfather Robert is behind the kidnapping and the deaths. He heads to Mimosa where he plans to find the missing $1.5 ransom million. He sees Cameron in a café, but she does not recognize him though they were close friends as preadolescents. He is even more stunned to see the plants in her truck as she was an asthmatic who could not be near foliage. As he finds other anomalies, Hayden and Cameron fall in love, but he knows that it will end once she learns who he is.

This is a terrific romantic suspense that has readers joining the hero wondering what is going on then and now. That relationship makes for an intriguing subplot as each keeps an inner secret from the other. The mystery is handled cleverly and deftly though the ending feels abrupt and off kilter. Still Cait London provides a fascinating thriller with a strong romance and plenty of suspense.
