There was no reward for reading the entire book.

This is a review of the audio.

Audio specific critique: Please stop the readers from saying things like: "I said, he said, etc." If the person says it, we know it and don't need to keep hearing them say that over and over again.

Now, for the book:

I picked this up at the library. I haven't followed the series so I didn't care if this was about Curtis Black or not. This storyline is about Janene/Antonio/Carl and Charlotte/Curtis/Mathew and Marissa.

Janene/Antonio/Carl---
Janene is a college professor dating a thug. Janene gets tired of Antonio not working and asks him to move out. Antonio then starts selling drugs out of her apartment. Janene has him arrested and things turn violent. Janene ends up meeting Carl and falling in love.

Charlotte/Curtis/Mathew and Marissa---
Charlotte is upset that Curtis is always on the road. Curtis discloses he is having an affair. Charlotte gets upset and their marriage is on the rocks for a while. Then, Marissa starts acting up and meets a terrible fate.

My opinion of the book:
It had several plot twists but they were the same old plot twists in any book out nowadays: domestic abuse, cheating, etc.. The only unique aspect of the story was childhood mental illness, but the author chose not to explore that storyline.

What I didn't find believeable about the story is the ability of Charlotte to expect anything of Curtis. Charlotte had Matthew and he wasn't Curtis's child. Charlotte had Marissa and she wasn't Curtis's child. Charlotte cheated on her best friend and cousin with her cousin's husband. Charlotte cheated on Curtis two times and one time the house got burned down as a result.

Charlotte had no room to talk. She is just a high class tramp. She and Curtis deserve each other.

More Curtis

I love Kimberla Lawson Roby's work. I have been enjoying the Curtis Black series. This book was good but I like many other reviewers would liked to have seen more of the man himself.

Easy Read

I enjoyed the third installment of the Curtis Black series. However, I did not enjoy the fact that the main charecters were the narrators of this novel. Mrs. Roby should have stuck with the way she usually writes her stories. Other than that the book was nice. However, the second installment was great.

forgiveness

I loved the book. I am still reading but am enjoying this book I pray that Rev. Black and his famlily will seek forgiveness and give forgiveness.

At long last, the Reverend Curtis Black appears to be on the straight and narrow. The all-too-human preacher is a bestselling author now, and he and his wife, Charlotte, are raising two adorable children. But the ever-suspicious Charlotte doesn't trust that Curtis has put his womanizing past behind him. While he's on the road promoting his latest book, she knows that there needs to be just one extra-devoted fan in his flock for him to stray.

Charlotte is no angel herself, and she's been keeping plenty of secrets from Curtis while he's been away. Still, Charlotte believes with all her heart that things will be better once Curtis is home again, although she should be careful what she wishes for since love may not be enough to untangle the web of lies she and Curtis have woven for themselves. And in the end, she'll have some tough decisions to make if she wants to salvage her marriage.
