Grat book

You cannot learn skiing by reading a book. Like any other skills, good skiing requires hours and hours of training. However, it is good to read "how to" manual before going to the hills. It is also especially good to look inside the book AFTER skiing day with fresh memories of one's own performance. This is a good book for everyone eager to learn more and improve his skiing skills. I do recommend it. For extreme skiing lovers I highly recommend three DVD's by well know extreme skier and filmmaker Peter Chrzanowski: "The Spirit", "Valdez Goes Extreme" and "Mt. Robson, The North Face". And if you want to relax next to the fireplace after a day of skiing then get Naked Pictures of Famous People

True to its title

Of all the numerous books on ski instruction that I have, this is among the best. The text and the illustrations are perfectly in sync and they are equally compelling explanations of what is going on. This book explains what it means to ski the whole mountain.

lacks diagrams, pictures, etc.

Yes, this book contains much information about the different components of skiing, ie., balance, weight transfer, pressure control, etc. etc. It also contains a wealth of exercises/drills that allows one to improve every aspect of how they ski...

Unfortunately, there are absolutely minimal pictures (cartoon drawings at best) to explain those concepts, and those exercises/drills..!! Yes, there are pictures - but they are mostly for posterity and not for supporting the words contained in the book.

For a subject like "Skiing," diagrams are a tremendous help, and this book has much to be desired on that area...

Good book for intermediate skiiers

This book presents a relatively simple approach to skiing that works in all conditions (with some modifications). I don't use it all the time, but there are times when it is useful to revert to ... It works without question.

Did not gain much after reading the whole book.

Do not agree with some of the "tools", especially "steering". Do not think that an intermediate skier (as myself) can benefit from the "tools" introduced in this book. I did learn something new in this book, though not much.
