The Journeyer
This is the story of Marco Polo that has never been told. On his death bed his last words were "I have not told half of what happened"
Don't believe the small minded-this is a GREAT BOOK!
This is one of the greatest books that I have ever read. Not the most intellectual, not the deepest, but the MOST FUN EVER. It is a fabulous "journey". Isn't that what a great book should do? Take you to other worlds? Well, this book really does. Yes, there is sex that we wouldn't condone (but you better bet went on then and certainly goes on still) and there is the most horrifying description of torture I have ever read and I was raised Catholic--12 years of martyr education, in depth. We are fortunate to live in a world that doesn't have to deal with this very often, or at least can assiduously deny it all. I have noticed a great deal of negative reviews on Amazon that come from our own extremist/fundamentalists and I must say: I didn't appreciate the Taliban in Afghanistan and I REALLY don't appreciate our own little band of American Christian Taliban. We are Americans: when I was growing up it was a "free country", it is far from it now. Read the book. Open your mind. The good went on and the bad went on, that is life. That's what happens in real life and that's what happens in this magnificent fiction. It's a great ride, and it won't kill anybody to read the icky parts.

The Greatest Adventure Ever
This book was first published in 1983 and I first read the book well over 20 years ago and was spellbound by the imagination and writing skills of the author. This is certainly one book where the reviewer could never give away the plot of the book, not even if they extended the review to several pages. It is amazing what one man's imagination can produce.
The book is over 1,000 pages long and every one of them is full of interest and excitement. It tells the story of Marco Polo, the Italian, perhaps he himself would prefer Venetian traveller, sent by the Pope on a journey to find and send greeting to the great Kublai Khan from the pope himself. Along with his father and uncle and two monks Marco sets out on a journey that will show him wonders he could never have though existed.
He finally arrives at the court of the great Khan after surviving all manner of dangers and he and his companions are feted with both stature and wealth. He and his father and uncle live among the subjects of the Khan and nothing is denied them they are showered with gifts and wealth and the most beautiful girls they could ever have dreamed about.
Eventually the Polo's sadly decide that they must leave the land of the Khan and return with their wealth to Venice. The Khan provides them with ships to speed their journey and also puts the Princess Kokejin into their safe keeping. But the whole of the story is not yet told . . . their journey back to Venice is even more full of adventure and danger.

Simply the best reading book
I read few books but my sister-in-law gave me this since I travel to China frequently. I started reading this while on vacation in Mexico and could not stop. It went with me to China and now am about finished reading the 1,000 plus pages. I hate to see it end as I feel I have lived his life with him and journeyed on his travels. Don't miss reading this book!!
