Confuse me weight loss!

I was led to this book by the similar name to my favorite nutrition book, The Evolution Diet and found this one to be quite the kicker. The good doctor uses some absolutely wakkie- backwards-seeming assumptions like placnts are good to eat because they are "bad" for us and protein is bad to eat because it is "good". Huh!??

What he means to say is that plants- especially Gundry's highly touted greens ("eat dark green, and you'll become lean")- are low in calorie content and high in other nutrientts. They were sustainance for the hunter-gatherers, but they didn't provide the calories that animals did.

I don't like the phase approach- it seems very gimmicky to me and my clients tend to go back to their original weights after phase diets- but once the dieter is in the 3rd phase of this diet- eating all-natural foods proportionately, it starts to look like a great and sustainable diet (much like the plan with the reversed name above). Recommended.

Dr. Gundry's Diet Evolution

I rarely write reviews for products I buy, but I thought it was only appropriate that I write a review for this book. After reading Dr. Gundry's book, everything made complete and perfect sense. I have been battling my weight ever since I can remember. Finally, I think I have found the answer I have been looking for. Since I am a Biology major myself, I understand the actual process of DNA replication and synthesis on a deeper level and Dr. Gundry's theory makes a lot of sense. Our DNA is not "set-in-stone" and can change for better or worse...in order to adapt to the environment and help the species thrive. Dr. Gundry's diet is a "re-set button" for our DNA and helps our bodies return to its original and normal state. I have been following the diet for almost a month and already lost 12 lbs--with very very little exercise. I started at 230 lbs. (5'10" male) and was suffering from a digestive problem; I'm 218 lbs. now and no longer have a digestive issue. I feel amazing and can't wait until I'm down to my goal weight (185 lbs.). Unbelieveable!!

I just bought this book yesterday and have begun the program. I'll update my success later as I'm that positive. This book fills the bill and solves all the diet confusion. It's progressive.

The endorsements are very impressive!

I have NO hunger and am amazed! I have never read such a book! (And I have read many diet/health books and even written, tho not published, my own!)

2 months on this program.. It's changed my life.

My wife and I have started this program together. (We are both in our mid 60's.) Two months later I have lost 20 lbs. and my wife has lost 10 lbs and 5 inches from her waist and hips. We are not hungry!!! My wife's last lipid blood panels were normal,without taking meds. (After having been almost 300 and taking Lipitor for control.) Just make the commitment, take the supplements and you'll see. Have your blood pannels done first, then again in 2 months. We are evolving into healthier, happy and energic folks. Our friends and family comment all the time about our appearance...makes us feel great.

Interesting premise, but troubling errors and no practical plan

I liked Dr Gundry's book at the beginning, when he explained evolutionary biology's role in the modern patterns that make us overweight. It was fascinating and highly plausible.

However, it felt like someone else entirely took over writing the book 2/3 the way through, and they had an entirely different agenda. After explaining how the fructose in fruit encourages you to gain weight, he then sings the praises of agave syrup which is...90% fructose. (Something you'd expect from a diet guru that doesn't understand biology, but him?). And I'm sure cacao/chocolate doesn't have any EGCG in it (but green tea does). And the advice to skip a meal if you ate a slice of pizza? I'm pretty sure that's the kind of advice that you'd normally see on a pro-ana site.

It felt like a book that started off well but was in a rush to get completed. I do believe Dr Gundry's 100% right about our genes trying to "kill us off" when we've settled into unhealthy habits. I just wish he had made given more practical, consistent advice for us to live with this kind of eating plan.
