Legacy of Honor

Alvin has done a great job with a lot of time and research. There is a common thread and he explains is perfectly. I know its a lot of work, but another book of this type is in order.

Helped me build my Eagle Legacy

I have been an Eagle for years (thanks to my mom). This book helped me realize that I have a legacy as an Eagle Scout. What a great book!!!

For My Grandson

I purchased this for my 17-year-old grandson who earned his Eagle Scout badge. While I didn't read it, I did glance through and the author impressed me. What he has to say is worthy of being read by all Eagle Scouts - and others.

Inspirational, Motivating, and Brings you back to your Scouting days

If you buy this book you might be slightly envious of the author, I certainly was. I so wished I could have been with him on this journey, meeting so many amazing Eagle Scouts. He was able to get up close with many named brand people who have done great things in their profession (Sam Walton, Ross Perot, Bill Marriott), country (Jim Lovell - Apollo 13, Senator Lugar from Indiana, Col Scott - Flying Tigers, etc), for social evolution (eg. Percy Sutton, a Tuskegee airman who was a hero, but was not allowed to eat in the dinning car, even after serving his country), and with everyday Eagle Scouts leading exemplary lives.

If you look at the reviews they are solidly perfect scores for the book, many of the reviews share additional stories of Eagle fortitude...so buy it, read it, give it as a gift (that's how I received mine). I was so stimulated after reading the book, which is a bit hard to do since I am a college professor, I am joining the National Eagle Scout Association as a Life Member. What are you waiting for? Buy the book, you'll love it!

There are no words...

I really don't have words I can type here in this space to adequately describe what I think about this book. It was good, yes, but that's a major understatement. It was going to be good for me no matter what because I'm an Eagle Scout, as is the author. But, even I did not know what I was getting myself into.

This book is for Scoutmasters and other Adult leaders and fathers, who want to become more inspired towards their duty towards their troop's scouts and their Scout sons in helping them to grow up to be the best they can be and to earn the rank of Eagle.

This is for Eagles, who want to know what the long, arduous climb to the peak of the "advancement mountain" was like for many famous or otherwise important American men, who experienced a Scouting journey most likely quite unlike the one they experienced themselves.

This is for anyone interested in reminiscing about their Scouting days, and this is also for anyone who's interested in discovering the kind of men the Scouting program can turn out when given the opportunity to do so.

This is bottom line, a great book, but again, my use of the word "great" is a huge understatement. Pick this one up.

Over the past century, America's Eagle Scouts have earned a reputation for service, virtue, and leadership that is recognized throughout the world. But few people realize the full extent to which Eagle Scouts have made a mark on American history. They have served as astronauts, soldiers, politicians, and businessmen, but they have also been the fathers, brothers, Scoutmasters, coaches, and other role models who have played an integral part in American life.

Alvin Townley set out across the country to hear the stories of these Eagle Scouts. He spoke with individuals from every region, of every age and every background, some of whom have risen to fame as public figures while others have left a lasting impact outside of the spotlight.

The Eagle Scouts who share their experiences include Bill Gates, Sr., Bill Bradley, J. W. Marriott, Jr., Ross Perot, Michael Bloomberg, Richard Lugar, Michael Dukakis, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, coach Chan Gailey, and Capt. Jim Lovell of Apollo 13. The book also explores the virtues of a Tuskegee Airman, a Vietnam War POW, a September 11 NYPD hero, a crew of Hurricane Katrina relief workers, and a host of others from every walk of life.

During his journey, Alvin discovered stories of character, courage, and inspiration that belong not only to Eagle Scouts but to all Americans. These stories form the heart of Legacy of Honor and offer us a chance to appreciate the profound impact that Eagle Scouts have had on American history and the lasting role they will play in our country's future.
