still in love with the series!
Read this
book
in 2 days! Love the series...cannot wait until August for the 4th!
Excellent story for any age
Being a 40-year old woman, I never thought I would enjoy this
book series
. I didn't think it would capture my interest. My step-daughter has read all three books and really loved them. She kept encouraging me to read them. I listened to the audio CD for
Twilight that
I checked out from the library to get a taste for the book to see if I liked it. It started rather slowly and I thought - "how could this teenage love affair with a vampire possibly fill up 4 volumes!!" I can't take another chapter of it. It was then, that the plot took a surprising suspenseful turn. I was riveted. So, I immediately bought the audio CDs for New
Moon
and the 3rd book Eclipse. New Moon again started a little slow getting into the story, but it too became exciting and intense. It was thoroughly enjoyable.

"New Moon" is definintely no "Twilight"!
First, let me say that I love fantasy stories. Vampires are my favorites, and I absolutely LOVED "
Twilight
." I thought it was written for a young adult audience but that it had a wider appeal. I read it in a day and thought Bella was a nice, smart girl who hadn't exactly lucked out in the parent department. Then she hooked up with Edward and their relationship was sweet, tinged with an edge of danger thanks to Edward's vampirism and Bella's enticing scent.
I ordered "New
Moon
" the day I finished "Twilight" and waited with barely concealed impatience. Then I got it and began to read and waited, and waited and waited... for something to happen.
I thought Edward's confession that he doesn't love Bella rang false. I couldn't see how she could possibly believe that. Ok, I told myself, just wait. Unlike many of the other reviewers, I didn't mind the reminders of the hole Bella felt. I actually identified with that. I didn't, however, identify with wanting to die because some guy left me. Not only was it weak, but it was a terrible way to write a character aimed at teens. No guy is worth killing yourself for!
I like Jacob. He's interesting, sweet and he and Bella have some good chemistry. He also makes sure he's there to take care of Bella when she does stupid things, unlike Edward, who just leaves her alone, knowing what she's doing. Jacob's a much better "person" than Edward, even if he isn't as beautiful.
Unfortunately, nothing happens during the middle 300 pages of the
book
. Then, finally Alice comes and she and Bella go to Italy to rescue Edward. Too bad it was boring.
I wish I could say I liked this book, but the reality is that I was extremely disappointed, both in the lack of plot and in Bella's suitability as a heroine. In this book, she's not someone I would ever want to emulate. Or even be friends with.
My recommendation is to read "Twilight" and stop there.

Legions of readers entranced by
Twilight
are hungry for more and they won't be disappointed. In New
Moon
, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love
saga
is well on its way to literary immortality.
