Never Forget!
A well-written story of the valour and courage of the American military. We will never forget their selfless service to our nation.
The best book I have ever read!
This book takes you on an amazing journey through the amazingly difficult training that every
SEAL
has to endure before earning the coveted trident metal. The SEAL training is what enabled Marcus and his fallen comrades to fight with unparreled gallentry against an inhumane emeny down the slopes of Murphy's Ridge. The wording of this book put me right next to Marcus and his fallen as they bravely fought--I simply could not put the book down!!
It is clear that the SEALS are among the elite of the elite when it comes to the best soldiers in the history of our world.
A heartfelt thanks to Marcus and his fallen brethren for confronting an enemy that embraces hate and sees no value whatsoever in human life.
In addition, a great thanks to our whole military for defending freedom and liberty.

A hero with some issues
Marcus is a brave dude. No doubt. He and his fallen comrades are
heroes
: the finest warriors in the world. BUT this book carries an undertone of paranoia that is stunning. It seems the insane Taliban and wicked Al Quida terrorists are not as much to blame for his ordeal as the "liberal media", a term he uses repeatedly and in the most cynical and naive fashion. Again, the man is a hero and his story is an epic struggle of survival. My issue is that the America he's fighting and willing to die for is not the same America that I live in. He sees the "liberal media' as another invader to be repelled, another hater of the American to be overcome.
I find that kind of writing incendiary and it takes away from the story he's telling making his epic somehow less heroic. In a world where FOX NEWS, the Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch control much of the "media" we consume, it's just wrong to make the "liberal media" a boogie man equal to the lunatics we must fight for our very survival.
Plenty of "liberals" have died fighting for America, many died in 9/11.. we are all Americans united by our love of our country and our willingness to die defending her. just as marcus and his comarades did.

Outstanding!
From an old Vietnam era Marine all I can say is outstanding. One of the best combat stories I've read. Marcus Lutrell and the Navy
Seal
s are America's best.
Every warrior should read this.
Very well written with a solid insight into BUDS and the way great men with excellent training make the finest warriors.

On a clear night in late June 2005, four U.S. Navy
SEALs left
their base in northern Afghanistan for the mountainous Pakistani border. Their mission was to capture or kill a notorious al Qaeda leader known to be ensconced in a Taliban stronghold surrounded by a small but heavily armed force. Less then twenty-four hours later, only one of those Navy SEALs remained alive. This is the story of fire
team leader
Marcus Luttrell, the sole
survivor
of
Operation
Redwing
, and the desperate battle in the mountains that led, ultimately, to the largest loss of life in Navy SEAL history. But it is also, more than anything, the story of his teammates, who fought ferociously beside him until he was the last one left-blasted unconscious by a rocket grenade, blown over a cliff, but still armed and still breathing. Over the next four days, badly injured and presumed dead, Luttrell fought off six al Qaeda assassins who were sent to finish him, then crawled for seven miles through the mountains before he was taken in by a Pashtun tribe, who risked everything to protect him from the encircling Taliban killers. A six-foot-five-inch Texan, Leading Petty Officer Luttrell takes us, blow-by-blow, through the brutal training of America's warrior elite and the relentless rites of passage required by the Navy SEALs. He transports us to a monstrous battle fought in the desolate peaks of Afghanistan, where the beleaguered American team plummeted headlong a thousand feet down a mountain as they fought back through flying shale and rocks. In this rich , moving chronicle of courage, honor, and patriotism, Marcus Luttrell delivers one of the most powerful narratives ever written about modern warfare-and a tribute to his teammates, who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
