This book changed my life!

This book literally changed my life! I was sleeping in the bed with my child (while my husband slept in the guest room), my child was waking up all through the night and I was nursing him back to sleep. My husband and I hadn't shared a bed for 10 months and I had not had more than 2 hours of consecutive sleep in months. The situation just got worse and worse until I found this book. I read it, and found that parts of it addressed my situation exactly!!! We set a time to get started (on a Friday night since we both work full-time), and followed the books instructions. I couldn't believe how quickly my child was sleeping through the night! It's two months later, and he is STILL sleeping through the night - usually 10 to 11 hours. When we wakes up he puts himself back to sleep pretty quickly. I was convinced that my child was going to be the exception to the rule because of all the bad habits we had instilled in him, but instead, he's doing awesome! I HIGHLY recommend this book!

The Best Sleep Book

A friend of mine strongly suggested this book, when my 5 month old still wasn't sleeping through the night. He is now 4 and I have gone back to this book many times. It breaks sleep issues down by age and potential problem, which helps find the most appropriate solution for your baby. It is amazing. It is not a "one size fits all" that most sleep books seem to be.

Practical, common-sense solutions for sane parents

To negative comments on this book: Don't buy this book if you don't want your child be independent enough to be able to sleep on his/her own. Don't buy it, if you want to sacrifice your own sleep for 2-3-4-who-knows-how-many years to come - because I know a mother of 4 y.o. who still hasn't gotten a full night sleep. Is it really helpful to your child? Because she is not getting a full-night sleep either.

I am using this book for the second time for my second child and I love it. With my second, amazingly, there was NO crying at all, I just saw the signs when he was ready to give up one and then a second feeding and I just pushed a little - with a minor discomfort of me rocking the crib for 1hr for a couple of nights and the baby being comforted in a different way. Were he really hungry, he would have let that be known, I'm sure.

I was also successful with the first one, although he didn't sleep through the night until maybe 9 m.o., which was OK. At least he learned to fall asleep on his own very early and that fed into him being more independent and helped us enormously on vacations, etc.

I used this book for all 6 of my children!

My first baby woke us both up every night for the first 2 years and it was a crazy way to live. When I had my second (who is now 15), I bought this book and used it on her and my 2 year old. It took some work, but within 3 days, we were new parents -- it was wonderful.

I re-read the book with my last 4 children and it worked wonderfully too. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone needing help teaching their children to sleep through the night.

I think it's silly that some reviewers are concerned that this book recommends having your baby sleep on their stomachs. If it doesn't match the current conventional wisdom, the readers can weigh the date of the book in mind. I've had 6 children and for the first 2, that was the recommendation -- to sleep on their stomachs. (We were told if they slept on their backs, they'd spit up and choke on it). With my next 2, it was recommended by experts to have them sleep on their sides. And with the last 2, that they sleep on their backs (which both of those babies hated). I wouldn't be surprised if it changes again by the time my children have their own children.
