if you've never read any palahniuk, then you need to start.
Invisible Monsters
Invisible
Monsters
by Chuck Palahniuk *****
Well written and captivating. If there ever was a novel that deserved the title a page turner then Invisible Monsters is it. It just may or may not be Up-Chucks best yet. If it isn't it is a close second.
The story of a woman who's face is horribly mutilated and transformed, which is also true of her life, turning her form one of the most beautiful girls in the world, and one of the worlds top models to something of well...a monster. As she realizes she didn't have it all before but has it now that she has a horrible face and decides to make the best out of a otherwise bad situation. Complete with the 'rhea sisters' a trio of drag-queens who are in the process of becoming. A family of once gay bashing turned pride members, and one massive twist.
Invisible Monsters is a mirror image of the culture we live in, as are all Up-Chucks books. But Invisible Monsters is the most clear cut and articulatly creative work yet. For someone who is a first time reader of his this would be the perfect place to start, and for anyone who enjoys a good read that actually says something, this makes for a enjoyable read. Highly Recommended.

"i love Brandy Alexander. And that's it."
this book is absolutely amazing. Chuck Palahnuick is such a smart guy and he does his research for all of his books. not only is this book hilarious and suspenseful, but it is informative too, that is the same about all of his books. i have read all of them. this one is by far his best, and i can't wait to read Snuff. if you liked the Movie "Fight Club", the twisted dark humor, the twists and turns, and unpredictability, read this one. this book is my favorite book so far.
Chainsaw sculpting at its finest!
While I did enjoy the book, the style that Palahniuk uses to build his characters through chaos and destruction to the nth degree really is something that not many other authors are good at and even he pushes from time to time. His writing is a trainwreck, the kind that you can't look away from inspite of the carnage. I was a little dissatisfied with the ending, but in retrospect I don't find another way to smooth things out, the mess is just too horrific and tragic to wrap up in a little ribbon and bow. So, he just leaves things strewn about, winds the characters back up and puts them back on their path. How like real life. And after he's done hacking away at the plotlines and character development, you step back and see that somehow he's created an amazing picture of terrible beauty.

One of, if not, his best!
For me, this book and Fight Club are my personal favorite of Chuck's. I still think that Fight Club is not everybody's favorite because the movie was so popular and well known that liking Fight Club is not 'cult-ish'. The rest of his works I like to a certain level except Diary which is kinda boring to me.
Well, you can read most of the brief story plot from the others but I will say this much: A novel about lost-control models is not my idea of good novel but it turned out that I love the story and I actually found all of the the main characters, except Evie, charming (albeit in very weird ways).
Enough said, this is an excellent and mildly disturbing piece of art. If you like Fight Club then this will surely not dissapoint you. Page-turner and full of twists and turn this one is!

She's a fashion model who has everything: a boyfriend, a career, a loyal best friend. But when a sudden freeway "accident" leaves her disfigured and incapable of speech, she is transformed from the beautiful center of attention to an

Enter Brandy Alexander, Queen Supreme, one operation away from becoming a real woman, who will teach her that reinventing yourself means erasing your past and making up something better. And that salvation hides in the last places you'll ever want to look.
