Bonk Review

This book was given to me in excellent condition. Even though it said the condition was "good", it was pretty much like new and it was half the price of an actual new book. The book also arrived in really good time.

Enightening & Entertaining

I thought I knew a thing or 2 about sex AND science, but this amazing book put me in my place & brought me back out again! I read it in 2 sittings - something I NEVER allow myself time to do - I just couldn't put it down! Informative beyond your comfort level, enlightening beyond your amazement boundary, and entertaining beyond belief! I loved it! I bought several copies for gifts as I wanted everyone to know what I know: Mary Roach ROCKS!!!

Things We Don't Talk About

Considering that porn is the #1 industry on the internet, and everyone thinks about sex every 5.4 seconds, and sex is used to sell everything from breakfast cereal to cars, it's remarkable how little actual information about sex is in circulation. The blue-nose conservative finger-waggers make believe that this isn't the most interesting subject in the world, and by-and-large the public media cater to these scolds who also happen to be the noisiest non-consumers.

So, Mary Roach, who blew my mind with her book about the uses to which cadavers are put, has done it again with a light-hearted but very factual and in fact quite educational book about the horizontal mambo. We learn about the nerves which control orgasm (hint: they're not in our pants), the mechanical sextoy industry, the history of brave researchers and how they scam funding, the biology and pharmacology and endocrinology involved, some bizarre aberrations, other cultures' attitudes, and other species accommodations. It's all done with Mary's trademarked dry humor, very readable and remarkably fast-moving. The photos at the end of each chapter are miniature essays in themselves, sometimes taking a few moments to decipher what we're looking at and why.

This is a book where you can read about all the things we're too bashful to talk about.

Bonk

Mary Roach, author of Stiff and Spook, hits the monosyllables once again with her latest publication, Bonk, which journeys through the world of science to see exactly what the field is doing with de Sade's favorite subject. Bonk is a thoroughly enjoyable romp through physiological research; Roach focuses on the scientific over the pornographic, making her work comfortable for wide audiences. Her voice is frank, and she jumps into her research feet-first, even to the point of participating in some of the studies she observes. Through it all her sense of humor shines through, and the entertainment value is high.

Sex is funny

This is a highly entertaining read, a journey through some fascinating areas of the human being. I thought I knew a lot about human sexuality (from my reading I hasten to add) but this opened my eyes to some basic research and facts. I was laughing out loud at some passages - Ms Roach was clearly enjoying the trip. And squirming in others. Well done.
