amazing
this book (in my own opinion) is tied with Breakfast of Champions or Goodbye Blue Monday!: A Novelfor the title "Funniest book in the world" read it if you like laughing
Don't forget your towel !
I have never been a Sci-Fi fan ;but I've heard so much about this "classic" that I had to give it a try.I found it a humorous as well as an imaginative read.No point to repeat what so many have already said in their reviews;because I generally agree with most of those who gave it a 5* rating.
Approaching my mid 70's,I can readily see that this sort of novel is something those much younger than I tend to enjoy.As anyone who has glanced at my reviews,they will see that althouhg I read mainly non-fiction;I do like some light fiction--mainly Westerns.For many decades,Westerns were a very popular genre;but even a casual glance in any bookstore,will show that while there are large sections of Sci-Fi,Mystery,Fantasy,and Romance;it's hard to find Westerns,and it's getting harder all the time.
However,I did enjoy this book,appreciated the author's ability to construct a good story and entertain the reader.
I guess my experience with this book is foretold in that old adage;
"Try it,you'll like it!"

Sure laughter
A master piece of a real genious of critical, nonsense comedy. Douglas Adams makes you laugh from the beggining to the very end with extraordinary characters and situations that you will definitely identify yourself with.
Fantastic, hilarious, brillian book
Words can't describe how brilliant Douglas Adams was. His book offers a hilarious, interesting, well made comedy. The sheer cleverness of the wordplay and logic seen in this book makes it worth reading.
Brilliant, fabulously creative and wildly entertaining.
Highly imaginative, hilarious (in that British humour, random/absurd/ridiculous sort of way), and action-packed. The ending leaves a bit to be desired, the overall structure is fairly haphazard (understandably given the original story source) and the characters are not as fleshed out or as personally appealing as I'd prefer. Sometimes Adams blathers on a little bit TOO much. But the other aspects - plot, setting/world creation, style, general enjoyability - make up for these flaws quite well, and while I didn't zoom through this book, it grabbed me enough that I read it quite quickly. All said, this is not a book that will appeal to everyone (if such a book exists), so if you don't like Adams' style and sense of humour and you realise that off the bat, move on to something else.
I laughed out loud too many times to count, and yet there were moments that showed true depth across the emotional and intellectual spectrum; it wasn't all a big joke. I felt Adams conveyed a sense of meaning, of fundamental truth regarding human(oid) nature amidst all the hustle and bustle, and I applaud his unique approach to science fiction as a genre. I see why this is a classic and would recommend it to anyone who likes science fiction and a good laugh.
