What's the problem?

Honestly, I'd taken a LONG break from EJD. Partly because of graduate school and only having time to read textbooks and research journals; but mostly because it was like reading the same story over and over. Each time a new book came out, I knew how the characters would look and the basics of where the storyline would go. By the forth novel, I was done. I kept hoping that the next one would be different somehow. I don't like to re-read the same storyline dressed up as a new novel, and he seems to have grown out of that while I wasn't looking. It took quite a bit of persuasion from my sis (who is in quite a few book clubs) to get me to check it out. I'm happy that I did because I can see where EJD is growing and evolving as an author.

I LOVED Chasing Destiny because it was fast-paced; surprising (at points); the characters were well developed and relatable (in fact, I know a Carmen-like person--as scary as that is); and left me wanting so much more. For me, when a story leaves me wanting less information or seems to drag along I know it was a waste of my time. In contrast, this one was great...I REALLY want to read a sequel soon.

Chasing Destiny

This book was one of our book club picks some months ago. But needless to say this is a great book. You will not be sorry you bought it. Lot's of drama, sex and lies. This little girl has a lot of lies up her sleeve and poor oh dad thinks she is just the perfect little angel. Well dad's our angels have a little devish in them. this is a book you will not be able to put down, cause you are gonna want to see what happen next.

These People are crazy!!!!

I really liked the book to be honest. I just could not get past all of the incidences of severe mental illness that EJD illustrated. Where do I start??

Billie-In love with a married man, and expected him to be happy that she got pregnant

Keith-Married into a psycho family...lesson here is to get to know your in-laws really well before getting married...and he expected the craziness not to trickle down to his daughter? I would say that the crazy rubbed of on him, but you have to be crazy on your own to even attract that kind of drama

Carmen-Her momma is crazy...her daddy is crazy...nuff said!

Carmen's Momma-Perhaps if she was not completely insane, she wold focus on her crazy husband and stay lout of her daughter's marriage. That would be too much like right.

Carmen's Daddy-Hello??? I am not trying to run anyone down, not even for my crazy daughter. How are you going to fix a situation that you refuse to take responsibility for? Had he not been crazy, perhaps Carmen would have been okay!

Raheem-Probably not crazy, but can you say opportunistic ho?

Mo-Poor little crazy lamb. Did he think that he could get away with exploitation without having his stuff shot off eventually?

Lupe-The crazier they are, the better it feels to slice em. The fact that she sees herself as a porno king pin just amazes me.

Q-Wrong place, wrong time, wrong people...which makes her crazy too.

Destiny-what did you expect?

Vivianne-The only sane person in the entire book.

Enjoy!!!

Good story

I love EJD and I think he remains one my favorite fiction writers. Loved the story, found it hard to put the book down. The characters are entwined in such a remarkable way.

Billie is as notorious for her beauty as she is for the hot yellow Ducati motorcycle she rides down L.A.'s meanest streets. Tough and talented, she does things her way. Until an unplanned pregnancy spins her life out of control. Her problem: Her lover Keith's divorce decree has been revoked, forcing him to choose between Billie and his dangerously manipulative wife, Carmen, along with their troubled and deceptive daughter, Destiny, a fifteen-year-old dancing on the edge of womanhood. Horrific things happen when Keith's daughter disappears in the company of low friends in dark places. And in chasing Destiny, Billie, Keith, and Carmen find their lives inextricably linked by a dangerous and seductive pursuit-at any speed, at any cost.
