Truth but a Rehash of Hinduism, Budhism, and C.S. Lewis

There is unquestionably truth in A New Earth, however, it's not a very accessible read, and I am grateful that the book was loaned to me. As many other reviewers have stated, it's pretty much a rehash of Hinduism, Budhism, and also C.S. Lewis. In one of his books, C.S. Lewis states that our only connection to Eternity is now.(Perhaps Lewis got that from the Hndus and Budhists as well, or perhaps spritual teachers arrive at the same conclusion.) And, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to conclude that fear truly is the root of all evil. These same ideas of the ego (lower self) and being in the moment are espoused by Deepak Chopra. Another book that readers might find more accessible is the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying.

The ego-- cant' live with it; can't live without it. Since we exist on this plane where the ego is very much present, many of us need a more organized and concrete presentation to satisfy the ego so that we can actually bypass it and become conscious. When something is presented in such an esoteric way, many people who are becoming conscious may not be able to wrap their minds around it. That being said, there are many voices who reach different people. Many find something in this book that speaks to them and that is a good thing. Much of it resonated with me, but that's because I had aleady been exposed to these ideas from other sources. Others will go elsewhere for a voice they understand. Hopefully, we're all the better for the "teachers" we find.

By being present and aware (being pure consciousness) in each moment,
I can neutralize the ego, that mental invader, made up of automatic, repetitive, unhappy thoughts, that activates in my mind, all the time.
From the silence of consciousness, I look at my thoughts, continuously flowing, reopening every day my old wounds.
I am not those thoughts, those psychic invaders, and the emotions and suffering they cause.
I am pure, peaceful Consciousness and I am observing them.
In the Now, they fade away and I am peace, true joy and happiness (some times!!).

Excellent for Getting Your LIfe Back on Track

Many books are good to read, this book is good for you. It takes all the silly day to day shallow things that happen in life and point you to the meaningful and important. As we live our lives, we sometimes forget the whole purpose. This book brings that back to focus. It teaches how we can avoid petty actions and reactions, allowing us to move on to the bigger things that are usually in our background, but with the this book, we learn how to keep them in view. An excellent,life changing book that will affect your soul.
